After a week of MTB Guiding, yesterday I got out on my own. Plugged in my music and smashed some hills.

This is from a little high point just off of Zona Zero Route 6 that not many people ride up too. I always do, just for the view.

You can see the nearly empty "embalse de Mediano" (Mediano Dam) way down in the background - it's been a long hot & dry summer.

Standing up here on my own, soaking up the sun and watching huge birds of prey soar silently overhead and I remember why we came here . . . . .

This place is amazing!

Clarence Drive Gordons Bay to Hanklip and back. It has been a good few years since I last cycled that - why, I really don't know, because it is just stupendously beautiful! All the way, in both directions. The road surface is so smooth, my bike was even more silent than usual, no road buzz, just the wind in my ears. I suppose it was my little reward for working this past weekend! I should go out that way more often!

It's an awesome ride when the wind behaves - have had days where have left a still Stellenbosch and arrived in Gordon's Bay and could barely open the car door for the wind.

I caught it in perfect conditions. Just a little breeze to keep cool, not much traffic, just the right amount of ups and downs for what I felt up to, bit of blue sky, but of cloud. The only thing missing was not spotting the whales.

24 December 2014... the last time I cycled on that road. I need to find the original panoramic photo I took that I used in this Instagram post
