I see the wind is going to be pumping something fierce around the turn on the Peninsula, so I'm going on a beer run. No use trying for a good time. Rather just have a good time.

And since when do we trust the weather forecast ...😋

expo run done late on thursday

parking was a schlepp, but this was during peak traffic. might be decent options here, but bike seems to be best option if you can work that

Cannondale and Giant both got kiff bikes on display. no real bike shops like old days, but ECC have a small store. You can buy (omnico)ryder spares at the clothing/official merchants

if you want sunglasses, loads of deals there

Took the Tim test - (melanoma scanning) I failed it - yay!

Has anyone found an app with a decent wind prediction yet?

Yes

If you live in the cape you will quickly find out about an app called epic ride weather. Very useful to avoid phoning the missus from hermon or melkbos when you have humped out there in a howling south easter like the TDF boys on a flat day and then realised you may need to get back home again in to the teeth of the Cape Doctor.

And yes its looking increasingly *** for Simonstown for the headwind but once you are over Smits you will be jet propelled. the haul from top of Smits is going to be very fast

Its a great app.

The prediction resembles the conditions of the 2024 edition. We chowed wind all they way to Cape Point and were battered by cross wind on the way back to town.

That year, the way up Chapmasns Peak was more enjoyable than the way down.

"I am little concerned. Matter of fact, I am really more than a little concerned."

my sailor/kiter/cyclist wind prediction for sunday with 48hrs* to go:

Depending on where you are sleeping, you might have wind on sat night worrying you, but

mild SE wind for all start groups till muizenberg

it will blow you sideways from there till smits

Then you're cool, although the chappies weird valley downdrafts could be a thing.

*this is a very unusual wind pattern this weekend as the South Atlantic high is moving passed and dissipating over sunday - SOOOOOOOOOOOO, nothing is guaranteed from this far out.

Yep - nothing like the swirling patterns you get on the corners when you descend Chappies in a good SE. As a big feller i have been lifted almost across the whole road by those little winds. Quite sobering when you are pedalling hard in to the wind when rounding a corner.

I think some caffeine sachets and 2 x breakfasts will be needed.....

Did the Number Collection thing early-ish this am, found parking quite easily.

Picked up my Number, Water Bottle, Ghost Pops and Magnesium Fizzy's and took a stroll through the hall. Made two turns to make sure I did not miss anything. (and I did not miss anything that piqued my interest)

Expo was really bleh...... How I miss the Good Hope Centre days when you could spend half a day wandering around, shopping for REAL SPECIALS.

Ya The Expo is just not what it used to be. Sadly, since about 2016 its only been in decline.

We can remember the haydays of the Powerband stand and cyclists clamoring for the device to block the dreaded 3G signals from frying their sub3!!

Wasn't that supposed to improve their balance, so they could make it round hospital bend upright?

We got a nicer race packet at the Winelands race.

Ya WTF - its pathetic this year, or I mean more pathetic than ever before. It also seemed that the expo has been taken over by the energy supplements snake oil salesmen.
