Also hear a report of MTBer shot at, at low water bridge just before Red Barn this past Saturday...Did not verify this. If true - what the hell is going on? Should we all just ride around the block with armed escorts?

Scary.

So there were 4 reported incidents in the Pretoria area.

2 were on Saturday in the Pretoria East and Bronkhorstspruit areas.

2 were in the area surrounding LZ Township and Red Barn.

These involved groups of 8 to 12 riders. The crews were armed and dangerous.

Stay away from the following roads: -

R21 (St George's Hotel area)

M18 to and from Red Barn (Red Barn itself is incident free and they have upped their security)

M57 between R21 and M18

Moonlight Road (Link between R21 and M17)

SAPS is onto the case together with security.

it seems that this incident the cyclist was armed and did fire upon the attacker who fired back ...

Yea i hear you. But what to do? No longer a case of hand over your bike and move on. These guys are violent maybe increase your chance from zero to 50%. If you go down he goes down with you.

This from today. Not exactly Pretoria just putting it out there.

This, and the previous attacks that were happening at Riverfields, I am convinced it is the builders in the area. The attacks only started happening when they started building that complex, and now I see some more land near by is advertising that they are putting up a complex.

I suppose thinking outside the box for ways of carrying somthing.  Biggest problem would be sweat and corrosion.

I would rather throw my bike at them and as they catch it draw and end the issue. If you get knocked off your bike, you are now separate to your gun... not ideal.

Daily carry guns should be cleaned and oiled regularly and glocks are mostly plastic anyway.

Sjo - how sad a situation it is when we are having real and honest discussions on what and how we should carry weapons for defence whilst out on a bike ride!!! WT*!!!!!!!! This is not right!! All we need is a high ranking government family member to be attacked on a bike - then maybe we can hope for change!

What make it more challenging to be able to react fast enough and to get to your pistol/revolver is the fact that we must conceal carry according to the law.

The only way I would consider riding with my pistol is, open carry with a holster on my chest.  That would be most comfortable while riding and give you the best chance to react fast enough, and even that is a big IF.

BUT that is not an option in SA.
