The weight of the toe-clip falls to the bottom - so pedals with toe-clips attached do look like that. 

 

To slip your foot in you have to spin the pedal 180 degrees with your toes and hope for the best. Eventually it becomes second nature.

I was replying to tuxstir who commented on the workings of the g/box.

A dogleg reverse is not very common on 6 speed boxes.

Ah man, dog leg gearbox. Remember the old E30 BMW. Never drove it but sat in it and went through the motion, wow it was weird.
