2017 Trek Stache 7 with an uncut Renthal Fatbar 35 and matching stubby stem and carbon seatpost and saddle upgrade. Still messing around with the fork and tyre pressures (only one ride in so far), but I've had a few revelations:

  • My previous bikes were probably a size too big for me. This one's a M, and although I've got the seatpost out quite a bit I feel a lot more comfortable on this than I have before.
  • The extra width bars and stubby stem are magic, especially for the inertia I need to muscle around with these wheels.
  • The mixture of these 29x3.0 tyres (although I'm probably still running them a touch too hard at 17/20 psi f/r) and feeling like the bike fits me better has boosted my cornering confidence immensely. With my previous two bikes I always felt very uncomfortable and awkward trying to get my weight low and on the front wheel during cornering, but with this one even sans-dropper it feels way more natural.
  • These wheels make the bike feel like a monster truck, in a great way. They take a bit of encouragement if you want to accelerate, but at a steady pace the additional mass is compensated for by the immense rollover they have and bumps slowing you down less.
  • Any sort of slight downward gradient it just runs like an angry overweight pitbull and has you clenching on and "advising" it where you want it to go.
  • Overall weight pretty much the same as my previous bike.
  • I evidently have a thing for green bikes.
  • These wheels sound like an unholy mixture of a swarm of hornets and a WWII bomber on the tar. I'm pretty sure I could terrify small children with the sound. It's great!
  • The fact that I get weird stares from passers by makes it just that much cooler.

Can't wait to take her out for a proper test this weekend, but thus far I am crazy stoked.

For interest sake, the 27.5x"2.8" vs 29x3.0: (inverted commas used as I'm pretty sure with the 27mm IW rims and Chaoyang tyre spec the previous tyres were actually closer to 2.4/2.5 width in reality)

New Fabric Line S saddle, I thought the Scoop was comfy but this takes it to a new level.

I was about to buy a line shallow but I like the look of your ones shorter nose.

I know these are very much personal fit and feeling things, but what did you like more about the new one?

Now you just need a dropper.....

Do you mind measuring the actual width between the 2 compared tyre sizes.

That's on the shortlist for an upgrade, once I've recovered a bit from this unexpected "investment".

Unfortunately the old bike already has a new home and I never took actual measurements.

nope they are Arundel and are beautiful and work really well

I feel way more planted on it and don’t tend to move around as much on the saddle. Also a lot more comfortable and takes a bit of the road noise out too.

They’ll be available from your LBS from next week.

Pricing isn’t too bad on them either.

Ha ja that was my next question - where did you find it, but cool, I'll wait a while longer.

Thanks

Huge boast - this bike deserves it's own website nevermind a corner of a thread.........could be on the bike porn thread.  It is beautiful and I have genuinely never seen a bike this perfect

I couldn't get it on the couch, the house is small and homeschooling is going on.  Eyebrows were raised enough when it made its debut

If you are seriously thinking of a dream titanuim bike, get in touch with Kevin Benkenstein - Curve

Lauf and XX1 matching blingwork courtesy of the ever brilliant CBR in Durbanville

wow that looks awesome agree with it needs it's own page it's out shining everything else on here. How does the road shifter and mtb derailleur work together or is it just a matter of setting up on PC?
