Hope some actually made the effort of reading my description in the video. Also Ironically enough if John's not allowed to Toutch or drink Alcohol, were we really drinking alcohol and then posting it on Social media ... Have a good Christmas everyone and remember, ride your bike ;) Oh yes my Wedding vlogs up next. Remember to troll and make me famous!

Thanks for responding Willie. If that was truly Coke, then sorry.

Still doesn't excuse jumping the Stop and disregard for other road rules.

Good luck with your training and upcoming season.

Willie boet, remove the video, you digging yourself a bigger hole...

I had to watch the video again: It started with Castle lite, then spirits... etc...open alcohol containers in car and on the road.

Think about the careers of the other fellow cyclist in the video, as well.

I am sure your employer (Katusha Alpecin) has already gotten wind of this, remember you an agent for their brand...

We all supporting you here in SA, but this is how things (small) start...

Fyi, it was played at our Team Launch tonight that was shot by our Team Videographer as an intro to my speach. And if some guys want to have a beer before their fun ride (which was all staged and planned for videos and photos) it's definitely not illegal, dangerous or going to ruin their careers. I truly don't know in what fantasy some people live.

I think the fantasy that Jaegermeister, beer, riding on public roads, skipping stop streets don't mix.

Dude, justify it all you want, I'm sure it was an awesome day and rad to do, but posting a video of guys doing shots, riding bikes illegally and saying 'just getting drunk' a few times doesn't set a great example for those easily influenced.

I'm sure you're an awesome dude with great intentions, but the video is painful.

I watched the vlog (before I stumbled across this thread), and thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Those easily influenced" should stay off of the internet, because there's a lot of worse content out there than cyclists intending to turn left, not stopping at a 4-way stop.

Let's just agree that we don't all see the world the same way. If you find the vlog painful, then don't watch it...but don't deny those of us who are not as easily influenced, the opportunity to enjoy it.

This. Half the problem with society today is that parents think it is everyone else's responsibility to raise their children and teach responsibility and common sense.

Anyone who watches this and then goes and does something illegal or irresponsible should perhaps go and ask their parents for a do-over.

Whoop whoop. We have a world tour rider commenting on the hub.

Willie you're an yster.

Good luck with the wedding.

And off season.

Feel free to come shoot the breeze here when you've been racing 200km+ here in the Belgium rain or similar

Whilst you're here. Would you recommend descending sitting on the top tube of an aerial? Asking for a friend....

It glorifies bad behavior.

Like I said, I'm sure it was fun and super rad to do, but the video glorifies drinking and riding and skipping stop signs and makes it cool.

I only watched the vlog because it was posted on here. I don't spend my time watching things on the internet.

I think most of what people post on social media is a load of absolute rubbish. It has created a world of 'look at me's' and in return people who do things for attention instead of themselves.

Blogs, vlogs etc are generally what people used to write in their diaries but now feel the need to share with the world.

Again, I'm sure Willie is an awesome guy, but just like rappers snorting cocaine off the butts of their 'hoes' and other rappers vilifying the behavior, it sets a rubbish example.

If you enjoy watching a bunch of guys drinking and riding on public roads and think it's funny or 'cool' then it's an issue.

The problem is, teenage kids will watch this and think, that looks rad. They do not have the knowledge or self restraint to only have '1 beer' and 'a couple' of shots before and during riding. They will likely get hammered drunk and if enough kids see and do that, law of averages say it will end badly.

I'm more saying that posting the video is not a good example. Why not just drink some beer, do some jaegermeister and go riding round the farm and not feel the need to post a video of it? That way Willie doesn't get called names but he still had just as much fun.

I'm over it now. I honestly have no vested interest in this and I think it has already taken up too much of my time.

That and I'm just a massive loser with a broom up my arse.

So you are not easily influenced but you conform to the norms of society.

I believe people should keep their own houses tidy. Teenage kids only need to turn on sky news and watch Paris burning and being looted if they want to see real issues.

If kids are going to do shots and then go cycling because of Willie, the perhaps their parents should be looked at rather.

I'm not condoning riding and drinking or disobeying the rules of the road, hell I have enough trouble staying upright sober on my bike or drunk on my feet.

But seriously this moral outrage is a bit much.

Ps Willie, does the shampoo work because my hair is thinning?

It's really about engaging the grey cells before posting

and then again using them before justifying one's actions.

I seriously don't get why we try to hold sportsmen to a higher moral code than we do ourselves.

I've had many a beer stop mid ride and continue on my merry way again.

I remember as a youngster once seeing Herchelle Gibbs smoking a cigarette, I couldn't believe my small town eyes.

Staged - as in none of the drinks were real just tins or glasses filled with plain Coke or water? Edited by Skylark
