Saddle Bags on Road Bikes: cool or uncool?

So what you all say?

 

I know the fashionista's say saddle bags on MTB's are uncool, but on a road bike?

Professional cyclists use them.

That's their job though. Doing 6 hr rides  x 5 a week demands are different.

I threw my saddle bag away in the 90's. Pocpac in my jersey or spares bag in my spare cage on short rides. Just as I was coaxing my friend away from a saddle bag he goes and buys a top tube bag.

Do what floats your boat and works best for you. There is a trend away from saddlebags to under saddle straps. Like THESE from FARR or THESE and THESE from Specialized. 

 

Seriously though, do what suits your need and taste.

Saddle bags are cool, they should go on your road bike, XC bike, gravel bike, enduro bike and especially on your DH bike! Its like a fanny pack (moonbag)...those things are the business, everything you want in one easy holder right there on your waist!!!

When you are hardcore and ride in the cold & wet, you dont really wanna be fiddling under the elastic of your gillet for food. Top tube bag FTW!

It is much more convenient than feeling like a pack-horse.

Met a couple riding up grappa with little backpacks on. A Bianchi with a packpack??? WTF? Not cool I thought.

 

Until we got to the top and they put on the contents of their backpacks. Thermal gloves, long leggings, thicker riding tops.

 

We were MUCH cooler than them coming down. Freezing in fact.
