our society has always been F$#$#ed up, its only now that woman have a voice that its recognised to be not ok and cant just be swept under the carpet

unfortunately though it has also given a voice to snowflakes that get offended by the tiniest little thing.

And allot of people conflate these two groups into one...

I think our society is not as foobared as we think it is. I believe it does a fairly decent job of regulating the human animal and has got better at doing this as time has gone by.

The problem is not that human beings are pure beings that society corrupts. The reality is that people are a complex mix of brutish impulses of aggression, sexuality, drives for power and status and consciousness and higher aspirations. Society must provide a context for the large scale regulation of these internal conflicts and the external dynamics that ensue and as such I think its doing a better job than ever before.

I wonder sometimes if noe of the issues with the metoo movement and other popular trends of these times is that it provokes us to attack our societal structures which while not perfect are the best we have ever developed.

I'm rather proud of thehub.

When I first joined calling someone gay as an insult was fine, explaining in graphic detail what you'd like to do to a female cyclist sexually when viewing her pic was fine and locker room talk was common.

Well done everyone. We've evolved in a very short time.

I have to agree with the being swept under the carpet bit.  Unfortunately the same with child sex abuse, the horror stories of abuse that happened in schools, orphanages,  children's homes,  etc. that is only coming to light now as adults are speaking up about what they endured as children.

Makes me so sad and angry at the same time to think of what was endured by those poor vulnerable little children.

Little edit there.

Been a far bit local bullying and such like as well. There was something shared on Bike Hub from one of the papers some time back.
Even recently have heard some stories, more recently there's been a case with Rwanda Cycling ...

Edit: Jock Boyer's open letter, posted by Wade Wallace in the comments section makes for sombre reading.

Unpopular opinion.

Just look at the Lady Pros thread

Women in cycling seem to always be regarded as hotties first, athletes second. And the brands that sponsor them seem to push the angle, jerseys unzipped, gratuitous cleavage angle shots ... yeah.

And we love looking at good looking women. Win win.

That doesn't give anyone the right to abuse them.

100% on this, eventually we might even get a civil transgender thread.

No excuses, but boys will the boys ...  but I for one like to celebrate women cyclists as athletes and people in the Lady's Pro thread, cleavages or not, as do some others here. But fine form is to be celebrated ... think Chloé

It has been a source of tension before, I had a big cyber punch up with whats his face bike dealer in Midrand few years ago over his gratuitous objectifications which I found offensive, few others spoke out.

What really irks me is pics of ladies on bikes with no calve muscles, FAKE.

This echos my views to a large degree and I believe this is part of the problem.https://youtu.be/JJmtEG6_Z64

Spot on. Exactly. I have always enjoyed his views in various matters.

The original video posted by the OP seems to be a publication seeking to create, and blow up, an issue. Being an athlete in itself is narcisistic. Where did athletes originate? In Rome, and it was only males at first. And how did they compete? Butt-naked.

The same today. Have a look on Instagram and FB - male and female athletes (irrespective what sporting code) over-emphasize their physical appearance, ie they themselves sexualize themselves. And our plastic society embrace that because vanity fuels escapism. Individuals want to escape from their own existence and emerce themselves in others' lives.

So to start jumping on a sexualizing bandwagon, and beating the drum senselessly, is a bit late. NO PERSON, MALE OR FEMALE SHOULD EVER BE SUBJECTED TO SEXUAL ABUSE

And then you get that other one, Mckinnon I think it is... that is bitching about being sexually deprived and ignored because lesbian women don't want a willy on a "lesbian"...

Society is just stupid

Piers Morgan is a buffoon..I wouldn't listen to him if we were the last people left on the Earth. To say that because we are historically tribalistic has some influence on our modern day thinking after 2 centuries of education is just stupid.. No I didn't carry on listening after that
