Coronavirus lockdown and exercising outdoors

Recommended Posts

the problem is that careless bliksem has the same train of thought as you, thats why he doesnt wear his mask.

Difference is that I'm still wearing mine. Do you see what I'm getting at?

That's exactly right, we are mostly wearing them to protect the ***** who don't care about others. Masks dont filter the virus (in and out) but they do reduce the amount of droplets that you release in the air, so they reduce the risks of you transmitting the virus to others, but if you ride through a cloud of droplets left by someone else you're going to breathe it in real quick, maybe some will be filtered by your mask, but not much I would say...

Just received 3x ciovita masks https://ciovita.co.za/pages/premium-cloth-face-masks gonna try em tomorrow morning, see if I can breathe with it, better or worse than with the buff. There is way more filtration material in them so they should be safer, but despite the fact that they have a shape, I'm not very optimistic about the amount of oxygen I'll be able to inhale it it   Let's see tomorrow !

It's quite sad though, that in the context of exercising, and particularly riding, if they would just open the entire day for us, more than 75% of this issue would just evaporate anyway.

You recon? You dont follow the 5km or the time rule anyways so it wont affect you either way. And that applies to hundreds of like minded individuals doing the exact same not following the rules and yet here we are ... saying it will make a difference

of you go to volunteer in the covid wards without a mask then if they not needed...

lets not  be an idiot now Dave just for the sake of being right

That's is a very different situation  with vastly different levels of exposure and resonance time.

On the rear light thing, I recently shelled out for a Garmin Varia light. I thought it was expensive but that I’d give it a try anyway.

I’ve been really surprised with how well the radar works (zero cars missed) and it’s made such a difference as I ride the country roads.

Before I was constantly looking behind me when I thought I heard a car (was wrong most of the time) and now it tells me.

I love it.

Love my varia, I actually feel "blind" riding without it, I've become so accustomed to it. It works well in wind conditions as well.

I actually pair mine with one of those super bright Bontrager Flair R rear lights.

Correct, some guys from Stellenbosch, Garmin then bought it from them. The first editions came with a separate head unit before Garmin integrated it into the Garmin computers.

I think Radar is most useful in loud wind, saying cruising down a decent where we typically use a little more road than usual and also need a longer time/space to react. No need trying to hear the car behind you, of course though if you in “full aero tuck” and doing same speed of the car it doesn’t give you any warning.

+1 on the Flair. Outstanding light in day or night.

The Varia was designed by a South African innovator, if my Friday evening brain serves me well.

Correctomundo, in Stellenbosch.

Living in the sticks with district roads to ride I've also become attached to my Varia.

But I'm still scared that the little dot approaching is busy browsing Facebook or something. People's screen time addiction is the one thing that has ruined cycling for me way more than even Stalin Cele.
