What you don't like is when the MTB'ers pass you on the road.....

Nah, I'm talking about when they are riding in the opposite direction and do this.

I have no worries with anyone overtaking me.

Yesterday there were lots of mostly MTB groups out in the cradle with no masks in site but this has been the same for the last couple of weeks.

I seriously struggle with masks and things that impede my breathing in normal situations i.e. just wearing a mask, so exercising is a huge challenge as i have issues because i was once on a ventilator and stopped breathing multiple times so its not like its without reason.

I try keep pulling the buff up when i am near people but as i am always on my own then take it down. However i also struggle in the cold weather with hay fever so i was always in need of a convenient "nasal clearing" about 10 to 15 minutes in. Now its a much bigger issue. I haven't solved these issues. Its also worse in the cold weather.

Mask wearing during hard exercise also i think can lead to buildup of expelled lung gases which can cause hyper ventilation - or so it feels to me.

Not a simple problem to solve...

By definition you are trying to filter the breath coming out, more so during exercise.

This is why i was asking about the best masks for exercise

Your ignorance (yup, I've noticed) continues to be astounding. Have you seen this?

https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/2562261/?fbclid=IwAR25Zx8QMhpiAA0frMw4zdEUHydTVbsAd043sCfaAYK4pW8BIZxqL6lQNcw

To the non-mask-wearing riders who continue to pull up *right* next to me (when I'm riding on my own) at traffic lights: #*$% you.

(Edit done to place emphasis on the bar chart race instead of the #*$% you).

So glad you assume my ignorance. I also see your graphs. And it is exactly that that I am referring to. Do the math dude.

Internationally the death rate vs infected is 6% and as a % of population it is even less than 0.005%.

These are the facts, me being ignorant or not has nothing to do with the facts.

So in SA we are not significantly different to the global numbers.

Edit: the vast majority (non cyclists) also don't give a damn. Just drive through any informal settlement, poorer suburb, life has been going on as per normal since L5.

That is what got most people, so many tried to do the right thing but when everyone around you that you are supposedly protecting wont protect themselves... well then you stop caring.

The 'good' news is that everyone will start caring again in about two weeks time...

People have a choice to join the Covid 19 tyrannical religion murder people. Don't force the point on those that want to get on with their lives as they see fit.

Same argument. Don't be an c*nt.

An interesting thing about viruses; they tend to be most potent early on in their "history". This is because the more lethal strains of the virus kill their host and the virus dies with it. A poor strategy from the virus. This is why the flu is so successful - it hardly ever kills anyone, it just makes you feel lousy for a week.

As this is a novel virus, it's interaction with us is pretty new. So from a human point of view, the longer you dodge the bullets, the weaker the ammunition gets. This is clearly an incentive to dodge bullets, but ja either way unfortunately people have to die for it to slowly become less potent.

As for fear mongering, you can't blame other people or the government for that, it's happening right here in this thread. Each day people whip themselves up into a frenzy right here, I am doing it right now, adding to the hype. The most recent communique from our government is that it is now in our hands. We need to be hygienic, keep a safe distance, and wear a mask - they didn't tell us to freak out, they just asked that we be decent citizens. Some of the decisions have not been great, but compared to a lot of other African countries we've been a great example.

Being in lockdown is hard, not seeing your parents is hard, not being able to works is hard. I can understand people wanting fight and resist that. But wearing a mask is f-ing easy and if you don't do it in public areas you're a selfish prick. Yes we will probably all get it, but that is not the point and it never really has been, its about managing the rate of spread so that infrastructure can cope and buy more time for people developing treatment.

Yes, but does the 5km rule still apply?

The locust plague reaches us from India/Pakistan.

This entire thing has been marketed like a U2 concert. But it's actually a busker with a 5 string guitar.

And all the moral one uppers are on here and facebook giving themselves virtual high fives coz they are wearing face masks and calling people who don't murderers.

As with second hand smoke, those of us who choose not to smoke dont want to be inhaling your second hand smoke.

Stop just thinking of yourself, other people also want to get on with their lives but want to prolong getting exposed to your possibly virus tainted mouth missiles.

I hate wearing my mask, but do so for the sake of those I interact with.

What amazes me is that the very people that cry out for us the citizens to be treated as adults are the same people that don't want to wear masks as some sort of teenage rebellion. As you say it's lousy wearing a mask but it's the adult thing to do. Edited by River Rat

Are we seriously to believe that mask wearing will be our future forever? How long do y'all envision this being for ...

I fear for the future we have created for our children

It has become the norm when out and about in a couple of East Asian countries. I suspects it will be something you will see for a long time still, even if Covid-19 passes.

This is just thinking aloud about public transport/shopping and other places where you don't know the people and their health.

Whereas socialising with friends and family might relax the mask wearing somewhat. And excercise/sport, there we might also see relaxation of the wearing of masks.

But my gut feeling is that it will become a social pressure thing to wear a mask in public in the long term. But, maybe not.

If you see it in the same vein as putting on suntan lotion what's the problem? For how long? As long as it takes. Did we create this? No, but s##t happens deal with it.
