How about some of their other recommendations?

I don't get your question.

This thread is about wearing a mask whilst exercising. I'm going to not wear a mask during exercise. Simple. If there are actual documented cases where people got this thing from running past someone with it then I'll happily change my tune and exercise indoors.

If I stop at a coffee shop or the top of chappies it will obviously get put on.

Happy?

So with Ramaphosa's last minute speech last night is it still game on for masks during exercise or have they updated regulations?

Legally, yes the regulations are quite clear that when you are out in public for any reason you need to wear a mask.

Nothing has changed in that front, yet.

But we are South African, so the rules are bendable, especially if there are no sanctions for transgressions. (I say this in jest, but it actually very true of us)

Yea and no. While the Danish model does appear out of reach it does provide a blueprint of sorts for SA.

One example it that it costs nothing to consider your fellow South African. You don't "lose" anything by helping others or making a mistake or conceding that you may not be right 100% of the time.

Empathy seems to be viewed as weakness in SA (and definitely on thehub!!!).

There is no reason why we couldn't start a Danish model in SA right now...

Yeah nah. I know what you're getting at, but it's a little John Lennon to be realistic, unfortunately.

We're on opposite ends of the Gini spectrum, and you don't gloss over massive differences like that. Desperation in Denmark is the bakery not opening on time, here the a vast majority of the population deals with unemployment, hunger, illness and violence. worlds apart

probably the only thing SA and Denmark have in common is that they had Zuma running the show for way longer than people initially expected.

And as long as everyone in SA has the same opinion as you nothing will change.

Thehub in general is a good indicator. By and large everyone on here is a "have" and yet the bickering to discussion ratio is high. We all have the option to be positive or negative and we seem to choose negative mostly. Of course there are major stresses and concerns in SA but as long as we doom and gloom our way through it it will remain doom and gloom.

Each to their own I guess.

Thehub has done some amazing stuff in the past so the capability is there...

Its good to hear that you will keep yourself safe with a mask when at the top of chappies and at coffee shops, its more than some would do.

I'm pretty happy, things are going well at work, getting to ride my bike more than I did in the last few weeks, even started commuting into work on the ol gravel bike. So yes, I'm happy, thanks for asking.

My question was about WHO. Did you make your decision to not wear a mask while running/riding based on their recommendation?

You unwittingly highlight a very real trend here. Why does it always have to be binary- positive or negative? There is actually middle ground and not everything has to be a polarising yes or no.

Just because i disagree with you slightly you think I'm being negative?

In case you missed it, I agreed with your ideals but said it was unrealistic to expect it to happen on the ground here. The road from violent service delivery protests to kumbaya does start with a single step, and we do need to take it.

I think the above is a great indicator of current trends.

The 'with us or against us' theme is hugely prevalent currently.

I've said it a thoasand times, guys need to acknowledge that we all see things differently and while we disagree in places, almost all of us have the same common goal.

Bickering over semantics and grammar detracts from the common goal and how we can realistically make peace with that.

I miss the days when this was a bike website discussing bike stuff and not a boiling pot of bickering differences in perspective. Yes, we disagreed, but it was about bike stuff.

The under tone was less affronted.

Anyway, How does one wear a mask AND eat at a restaurant? It seems counter intuitive.......

And unfortunately it's not as simple as staying away from the Covid threads. It seems nearly every thread has in some or other way turned into a political, religious, covid, etc. debate. I'm complaining - but I have contributed, so I guess I can't really comment.

again logic needs to be put in school curriculum...

I also see no issue with masks, I smashed my 10km pb on sunday with a mask on and hr within normal maximum effort range. That was a 2 layer mask with a filter between the 2 layers. No discomfort or waterboarding feeling.

Okes work manual labour underground in stupid temperatures with masks on fine, I haven't seen guys posting WHO public notices on that?

You mean those okes who suffer terribly from all kinds of lung function ailments to the point where a regular lung function check is required before they can go on shift.
