When will we move on from the Groenewegen/ Jakobsen crash...

The what?

It's only dragging out because people are giving it air time.

That or people will move on when Nacer Booohani jumps off his bike and fly kicks someone to the throat and the UCI blame the barriers or the down hill sprint.

Just had a vivid flash of Cantona doing the Hari Kiri

Not sure what everyone thinks, but this a bit dragged, or not? Ban was served? Or should he have been banned for life? Sanction not enough?

Dunno hey.

Go have a look at Jakobsen's face and the process/operations that he is still going through to get his body back into what it was before.  Ask him about his trauma...

You could just as well ask Gaviria about the same thing after today. Oh, wait, the barriers worked, and didn't implode in a freak accident. Guess we'll ignore this incident too.

It's time to leave Groenewegen alone. The guy couldn't even muster a full sprint to the finish today because of this kind of topic and comments.

When they go head to head in a sprint and Jakobsen is made to look like the second class sprinter he really is.

what Groenewegen did has been done countless times and we'll see it countless more times. The reason we're talking about it is how the barriers failed. So while we're talking about that, the UCI are talking about socks and super tucks. They seem to know tuck-all about cycling.

To put things in perspective this was not just a minor infringement his action nearly killed a fellow competitor. For a fan it's a case of he served his time so let bygones be bygones for Jakobsen and fans of fair play it's not so easy because they believe that the punishment did not fit the crime. I can see this issue dogging Groenewegen for the rest of his career, so the win at all costs approach has the rest of the field recalculating the cost column.

To put things in perspective, you need to realise this "infringement" as you put it is a lot more commonplace. There are deviations, guys switching and elbows flying in nearly every ProTour mass sprint, and even out on the road at intermediate sprint points

The ONLY thing different here is how bad the one guy fell.

If you really believe that Groenewagen needs to be ostracised, then you must surely be of the opinion that sprints in road cycling must be banned.

Talking about the punishment fitting the "crime" is not realistic, as the outlier in this event was the consequence, not the "crime" itself, as that "crime" is committed almost daily in the peleton.

Theo Bos on Impey was orders worse

Of course it was. Abdou on the Champs Elysee in '91 was worse (hell, Abdou in any sprint was way worse that what Groenewagen dreams of doing).

Anyone remember Tom Steels? Throwing a bottle at (McEwen) at 70+km/h.

I'll say it again, if you believe Groenewagen is a bad guy here, then sprints need to be banned.

I don't buy this logic because in another application you are suggesting that a drunk driver who kills someone in an accident should be given the same censure as one that causes a fender bender. I prefer a world where actions have consequences so sprinting within the rules is cool break the rules and face the consequences, it's your choice.

So, you're happy with sprinters (or drunk drivers) breaking the rules, as long as the consequences for others are not too bad?

In your drunk driving example, drunk driving is illegal, isn't it?

You seem to miss the point that ALL (hyperbole, sure) sprinters break the rules almost every time they sprint.
