Nee nee from what has been said the forums will be structured to mainly focus on cycling related and ots derivatives

So i really can't see how those will stay if we're being transparent about all this

That's not how I understand Matt's original post.

Yup, I'm in the same boat now that I battle to watch live cycling with the time delay, it was mostly on the other threads that I found my home. I am a relic from a time before the light.

@Thor Buttox... at the risk of discussing a current affair - don't you mean the dark now that we in winter load shedding again.

I'm just going to take this moment to appreciate the fact that "Topics for discussion" is also an acceptable Topic for discussion. I believe the young people would say this is "so meta".

But the F1 threat will stay?

Same as the woodworking one? The watch one will likely stay too.

Unless they are political or religious

Notable Current Affairs topics:

SpaceX and Elon Mask blasting a Tesla into Space

Mars rover and Mars Drone

Australian Wildfires

etc etc etc

I'm obviously not enough of a forumite to want to discuss these things on forums.

I think people are throwing the baby out with the bath water on this one before actually seeing what IS and ISN'T being culled.

It's akin to getting a missed call from a number you recognise, then creating all sorts of scenarios for said call, getting emotionally involved in the said made up scenarios, only to call the number back to find out it's your nan and she was wondering if you wanted to go for lunch on Sunday.

I sense some confusion around what's allowed or not.

Use this as a rough guideline on what Off-topic discussion will remain on the allowed list based on the current forum structure

  • Off-topic
    • Chit Chat
    • Other Sports
    • Computers and Tech
    • Current Affairs (most threads in here are of a political nature, occasionally religious)

There may be some cross-over where threads exist in other sections, but as a general rule other sports, hobbies, what to watch/listen to etc. are safe. The most problematic threads are typically political, religious or related to other firmly held beliefs. "Current affairs" is admittedly broad and something of a grey area, but again as a guideline... if it's a News24 story (or similar) which you can no longer comment on there, Bike Hub isn't the place for commentary either.

Structurally we will be combining all the above into a single Off-topic / non-cycling forum. This will be as part of a broader reorganisation of other cycling forums to make things easier. At the moment there's a long list of forums and it's often unclear where to post or look for what, the idea is to make that simpler by combining some unused or overlapping sections.

well here's some massive news. I don't mind being banned, warned, hung-drawn-and-quatered for sharing this -

exactly the thing that  would be nice to discuss amongst mature(ish) individuals here, without the toxic remarks that can be found on twitter/facebook/et.al.

@ Admin and yee who know

Is there a timeframe.....When are these changes going to start happening, I.e. the culling of toxic threads?

We're aiming for next week but its dependant on other work being completed first.

Surely an article like this can be classified as chit chat?
It doesn't need it's own thread, but rather something that is discussed today, and everyone moves onto the next discussion point.

Matt specifically mentioned that if it appears in news24 it is not to be discussed here. :(

I clearly didn't read that bit ????

Not that it worries me. I'm mostly here for cycling - to learn a bit and share some knowledge and experience.

Good to see a decision being made and movement in some kind of direction.

What will this mean for “Off Topic” threads which are not toxic and never have been, for example:

Chit chat - TV shows, Car porn, Aviation fans, I have an idea for another thread..... etc?

All gone, did you not read the notice?
