My appologies ... back on topic for a moment ...

Seems the industry is still confident in the Western Cape.

Cycle Lab is opening a BIG new store at N1 City .....

Did not get a clear answer about CWC ....

Spoke to them, for the time being, CWC will stay as is

I have a Prado and a Hilux, I could sell either one for about what I paid for it. Replacing either with similar would mean throwing in north of 100k, that buys a lot of the extra petrol/diesel required for a lesser vehicle in my opinion.

a) people are not replacing with similar, but rather downgrading (although some expect to have the same levels of luxury at a fraction of the price they paid for their current car)

b) those replacing with something similar but more fuel efficient are indeed kidding themselves.

I do so little private kms nowdays that I don't mind paying the fuel penalty for driving two Subaru performance Suvs. The big smile on my face when I hear the exhausts talking and feel the surge of those turbos wipes out the cost of a couple of hundred rands extra I pay in petrol a month. Plus they are paid for.

I know what you mean.

I have a 2005 330i manual in the garage. It does less mileage per year than my bicycle, but man when I take it for a drive I'm all smiles.

Although I must say, its pretty darn frugal for what it is, will embarrass alot of modern small capacity motors with its fuels efficiency.

That makes little sense .... same company having two mega shops a few km apart .....

O-well, time will tell.

The CWC position certainly is a lot more convenient for me.

Wow, thought CL would never return to CT. Has there ever been a bike shop in N1 city? Seems like a central location but the options to the north are closer to cyclists and trails.

Guys guys guys, please don't get this thread shut down with a futile bakkie measuring contest!

For the uninformed they will flit between the 2 for "comparitive quotes" and come out feeling a winner, perhaps......

On the topic of price related to cycling goods, I must give a shout out to Go-MX on Blaauwberg in Tableview. I just bought myself some new kit from them and their prices are markedly less than some of the LBS in the vicinity.

Helmets, goggles, glasses, jerseys, shorts, trousers, socks, shoes, protection gear - they have it at good prices and great quality.

They cater mainly to the Motocross bunch, but they have a range of MTB kit aimed to the gravity and enduro side of things, but their range is increasing and they are more than willing to order on specific requirements as their network of suppliers is extensive according to them.

Cool shop with cool people running the show. They are always really interested in you as their client and treat you as a friend from the moment you step inside to the moment you leave. I am always happy to punt a business that leaves such a good impression.

This after ordering Leatt kit from another LBS and after a week being told my order was never processed, but it would be done now . . . (despite being promised a 2-day turnaround from date of order). I cancelled and went to Go MX and have never looked back.

disclaimer - I have no affiliation, I just appreciate great service.

Of hy hou daarvan om in gemak te ry. Of hy het rug probleme. En daar is 25 ander backups vir wanneer die Ford staan.

They sort of tried, but never understood the CT market. Maybe it will be different for them this time around? N1 City location is probably a case of a lot of square meters for less moneys? They like their big flashy stores.

I don't live in the N-subs anymore, but even when I did, I never went to N1 City.

I think the last time I went there was as a teenager in the 90s. They had this awesome arcade game section.

I assumed the CL guys were quite market savvy, but since the golf people bought it over they seem to have moved away from cape town. I'm guessing they have been waiting for the time to be right to return, but they have chosen not to leverage the CWC brand further here.

In my 46 years on this earth I've only been there twice. The second being a few weeks back one Saturday while attending a conference close by. We only went there for lunch and I don't see any reason to return. There is zero reason for me to want to drive to N1 city and deal with its congestion. Its bad enough Reeds N1 City is next door, but luckily they did such a rubbish job on my Isuzu the last time round I now have even less reason to go back there again.

I honestly think CL could have found a better location, but in truth it doesn't really matter to me since I don't plan on going there anyway. I've browsed their websites once or twice and left within maybe 2 minutes each time, so if the stores are half as boring as their online presence I suspect they may be leaving again soonish.
