Found this little gem of a detour on my commute to work.  About halfway on my commute I go through a town that tends to have quite a bit of traffic and a couple of traffic lights.  So my commuting buddy last week showed me a detour that takes you around the town with these narrow little tar roads but no traffic other than the odd cyclist and maybe one car or so.  It is two kilometers longer than going through the town but the whole stretch is 8 km with no stopping so you end up doing an avg of 40 km/h which possibly makes it faster than going the shorter route with traffic and traffic lights.
