Sorry mate, not generally true.  I regularly ride and drive along that road.  Even driving at the specified 50 km/h limit gets you the double-cab or 4x4 up your backside trying to intimidate you into going faster.  On one memorable occasion while driving at 50 there I was overtaken by a Golden Arrow bus ...

Another fatality in Camps Bay right outside the police station. I'm not sure what happened and didn't see an offending vehicle.

I doubt the scheme will work because motorists see red when they see a cyclist. It's the same in Australia.

It used to be the same in inner city London until they made everyone drive at 20mph and enforce it with average speed cameras. Now they are more worried about losing their licence than cycists.

A 30km/h speed limit on Chappies and Victoria road will fix things quickly but that requires speed cameras everywhere 

And hefty fines

My stomach sank when I saw the news of the cyclist; and when I saw it was the same BMW I felt ill. Someone tried to intervene before this happened and nothing was done.

I will see who I can find from Camps Bay Community Improvement District WA Group to try locate this member - i THINK, just like Hout Bay did, they had citizen C.I.D. patrols (in two's, often with a radio & bib), over the Season, to keep an eye on beaches, common areas, to be eyes & ears, etc.

@jbr - spoke to Bjorn T, Camps Bay C.I.D Safety office, sent him screen grab of requested details, he will get in touch with Detective who knows of the CID Patroller on duty that day, etc.

(case now transferred from Camps Bay Police Station to 'Provincial' (Investigating Unit?).

 

Let me have Leanne's number, or else Cassim's number, and I will send details.
