You need to try harder to make sense...

Simple for those who need harder sense and not common sense

2 cyclists middle of the road when there are signs that says single file. they clearly ignoring road rules in South Africa. Yet bitch about cars getting fed up with cyclists.

1 motorists trying to get passed on a solid line - again no go but you have 2 guys disobaying well known road rules. How long he been behind etc no one knows.

Runners on the wrong side of the road

3 wrongs dont make a right but dont point fingers when you 1 of the 3

Just adding to the conversation, with my comments only being limited to Chapmans Peak.

The question about runners is the easiest to address as they are not allowed between the lookout (Houtbay side) and Noordhoek Corner.

I could be wrong here...

I don't think it's actually possible for a car to overtake a cyclist safely between the lookout and Noordhoek corner. By safely I mean, maintain 1.5m between car and cyclist and also not cross the solid line. And there is no way a car will wait behind my fat arse riding at 9km/h up Chapmans Peak.

Riding single file assumes we are riding together. However, cyclist at times have to go past each other due to differences in speed uphill or downhill. But riding single file is a rule. So that means the racing snakes that frequent Chapmans Peak should sit quietly behind me as I pace them up Chapmans Peak at 9km/h if I hit the foot of the climb first.

My view has always been that there are too many rules/laws which lack contextual understanding. Situations are not static and require at the very least, some basic intellect to ensure that all parties covered by the rules and legal framework get home alive. But people can be morons.

Othering is a useful psychological device to distinguish groups of people from your group.
The dark side or bias filter that comes with othering is that the those from another group is separate from me and different. Thus, inferior to me and deserves to be treated without dignity, respect or (in the world of cyclists and motorists) given the necessary road space and patience. Now add an intoxicant like alcohol and a holiday lifestyle of sleep debt.
The ‘opposite’ of othering is humanising, curiosity instead of judgement and ubuntu.

Be safe out there, Peoples/

Then keep riding like this and accept actions

its about reducing the incidence of risk...be selfish when it comes to personal risk...avoidance and looking over your shoulder because you don't know whats really behind you...and as for those runners in the image...worse...selfish...adults should know better but adults dont always make the best decisions...seen too many times...

Reminds me of some of the comments from south African motorists on news reports of the death this thread pertains to. Those articles featured a selfie lifted from his social media and some commenters saw fit to comment on the illegality of the picture.

This conversation was closed down on the other thread because it couldn't be contained.

Cycling single file on the downhill sections of Chappies is a bit of an issue. I am often behind cyclists on Chappies on the downhill section into Noordhoek or the other side into HB. They are often in the middle of the road. And, they are going at or above the speed limit. If I try pass them...it means exceeding the speed limit on Chappies. Maybe because I'm a cyclist I don't have an issue with this. I just stay behind them until I get an opportunity to pass safely, or they drop me when I stop at the toll. Something to consider.

I would say that riding a bicycle has made you a better driver who understands the road and the conditions better and has humanised the situation thereby making you patient and considerate.

Attributes that our road death stats show us are sorely lacking

Cyclists riding like clowns here. They their own worst enemy

I do not think that the nearest two cyclists are riding side by side. Look carefully, the one is clearly in front of the other and they are not riding the same line. The right one is turning in after overtaking the left one. (A feasible explanation methinks.) The driver is overtaking across a solid line and dangerously close to both the cyclist and the runners. So, the one undeniable illegal action, is by the driver.

Not sure if it's you, but just in caseimage.png.c7614366daa498a43f9ec4dfc4a94ef7.png

OK, no further assistance on the above, needed for now, I have put Cassim (Father) in touch with Moneeb (Camps Bay C.I.D.), and - in turn - the investigating officer - so above request is sorted/finalized. Thanks.
