SwissVan correct, we need to tackle this  Munga 2024 like a stage race.

Stage 1, get @Jewbacca on the start line with that 20inch wheel. Hopefully more to get the fundraising rolling.

Stage 2, fundraising through SPCA like with @gemmerbal, by the way you do get your section 18A receipts!

Stage 3, open for suggestions, raffle, perhaps @Patchelicious can be entised to take a wager. @Patchelicious was a great sport and even from far in the country with grey skies, managed to drop dogfood in Raaswater, try finding Raaswater on the map!

Stage 4, pledges from Hubbers, time estimate…

To be honset, I have not thought pass stage 1, all I know is that reduced entry fee(not sure it is still available) gives us a small window to enter and evolve.

BikeHub’s community is diversed, different skill sets sure we can figure this out for the love of bikes!, cycling!, and our daily companions.

Currently the only exercise I get is from walking the dogs and riding bikes with my kids.

    Always happy to help.

I'll pledge a bag of dog food to the same doggy sanctuary for every 100km that Guy manages.

Will double it if he does it on a BMX.

Meanwhile, racing in Canada, Darryl Impey announces his retirement. South Africa’s most high profile World Tour cyclist (with Ashleigh right up there in the WWT) will be moving to Australia with his family, starting a new chapter.

What a great finalè today as Rui Costa earns precious WT points for his team as they have been hanging low in the points race. Kamna’s error / crash was unfortunate as he looked unbearable with his attack from a few kms out.

The mystery remains about Remco’s implosion on Friday and then a remarkable breakaway victory that left his fellow escapee, Bardet, in awe. The young man wearing the number 1 dossard have earned some form of redemption. However, there’ll be lingering doubts about his capabilities to head to France for that ‘other race’ - the largest annual sporting event in the world.

The Steppers held up the Moroccan flag in remembrance for the earthquake deaths in the beautiful city of Marrakesh. That was beautiful.

I asked somebody this exact question, but they got rather annoyed that I did so on "their personal FB", so I'll ask here: "Did he (Darryl) ever name the irresponsible pharmacist who almost, through complete and utter negligence almost ended his career?"

I just bought a hydraulic bike lift stand thing from TracMac Bellville. Cant wait to lift my monster off the ground for shock/swingarm refurbishment. The lack of a stand/lift has been hampering progress. while I was there I spotted these two bikes belonging to the owner. Brought back some memories.

I popped past there a few weeks back to look for some jackets/gloves and saw the same two bikes, but under about 1000 boxes! Felt like they needed rescuing from an abusive owner.

I always find the concept of 'motivation' to be so interesting.

Why does it matter if the cut off is moved? At TDF sometimes they allow guys out side of the time cut to continue. It's not uncommon.

I'm not at all emotionally connected to any events. I've done some rad ones, but if they allow dopers or have a bad run or change cut off regulations etc it doesn't impact me at all.

Maybe it comes back to motivation. Why people choose and believe others choose to do these sorts of events.

If I was out there struggling from yesterday and dedding again today I would be so grateful for an extra 55 minutes. I still need to eat, rest, get up tomorrow and do it all again.

Being hyper critical of someone who has done every single stage of every single version of the race so far. That's already a LOT of dedication to the race. Maybe the oke has had a bad year with health/work/personal stuff to deal with. He is still out there doing the business, albeit slowly.

Realistically, this is not the most difficult 8 day sport race to finish if you're just there to finish. It's tough, but compared to an expedition AR it's a doddle to finish. So if you're just making cut offs, you're not troubling the scorers so why does it matter?

    Anyway, I wish them luck.

I've spent some long days and nights in the saddle doing Freedom Challenge and other 250km non stop stages in an AR and honestly, I don't envy the guys getting in now, trying to eat, recover, sleep, eat, hydrate etc all before 5am tomorrow when they rinse and repeat.

Again, motivation is a funny thing because that doesn't seem like any sort of fun to me, not type 2, 2,5 or 3, never mind type 1.

    Good luck to them

    You lost me at “rad”.

Well they had the Queen stage on the first day, maybe to trim the field down from the get-go? Weed out the woosies?

Another problem with this approach is that the tribal tatted Randpark Firethorn members will start with “Listen charna, I paid 150kaaay for 8 days of social media posts!”

  6. Haven’t read the thread yet, so this is not directed at anybody here.

From my various WhatsApp groups etc, it seems people are ONCE AGAIN whinging about the race being hard. WTF??? Every damn year. “It’s too hot, it’s too steep, it’s too this or that”

Its the Catalina “Cape Epic” Wine mixer! FFS!! Go back to the driving range if you can’t handle it. There is no “handicap” system in cycling to sandbag, it’s just you and your legs!

Watch how they will soon let the ABSA VIP clients do it on eBikes….

On the subject of letting go, my SRAD was supposed to go on the 4th. The money was in my pocket and the buyer was about to head off when I noticed some white smoke coming from the exhaust.

Parked the bike, gave him his money back and gave him a lift home with the car.

Was advised to sort out the small stuff before looking at stuff like piston & rings, so removed and had the carbs cleaned. Took the feul pump out the tank and realized it was extremely rusty inside and the feul pump was worse for wear, fortunatelyI have a whole second spares bike so took alook at the other tank and feul pump and they were in much better condition. New oil and oil filter aswell.

Upon reassembling everything I realized that I'd previously mixed up two breather pipes that were connected between the motor, carbs and airbox and that was probably the cause for the white oil smoke as I know my motor is supposed to be mint.

Started the bike up on Saturday 12th with the buyer present and had it Idle till warm enough to ride. First the buyer went for a ride and returned saying the bike ran like a dream now, I took it out next and bike pulled like a rocket again with the clean carbs, but as I neared my house started stuttering again.

We checked and saw that one cylinder was cooler than the others so took out the spark plug and saw that it was fowled. The buyers said he'd get 4 new plugs at Autozone on Sunday morning after his round of golf and he'll come to collect the bike.

Come Sunday morning I notice some petrol undreneath the bike and realized that the carbs were getting stuck and flooding the piston chamber. Swung the motor and petrol came squirting out the sparkplug hole. On second swing of the starter realized some of the other piston chambers were also flooded so took out all the plugs to swing the motor and get rid of the petrol inside. Once again petrol squinting out everywhere.

And then the sh@t hit the fan in one of the worst ways motorcycling imaginable. And my heart was broken.20220313_125951.jpg.71a2c7842e9afd95b9020b5e66ae23f5.jpg

Just "survived" a trip on the N1 ...

    WOW !!!

Car drivers dont even respect other cars on the road ....

Coffee in the one hand, pinky barely resting on the steering wheel ... while texting with the other hand .... attention is everywhere except on the traffic .... just more of this behaviour along the residential route

Cyclist and pedestrians are no consideration to these types of drivers.

    Please stay safe out there.

Forget skydiving, open water shark diving or telling a Karen to calm down, if you want to have a real thrilling near death experience, go for a cycle around Somerset West between 7:30 and 8:10 in the morning.... School run parents... yusssus 😳😳😳

I love how the fan boys refuse to believe a good sportser would also do other stuff good all the time too.....

If he behaves like this in his car, it makes me wonder what he did/said/behaved with the rangers in 'the arm' incident.

Bakkies do weirds things to good people.....

My old man just bought a Wildtrack, out the blue, I am seeing a therapist, its like my whole life was a lie!

Did anyone actually see Nic driving this bakkie?

All I see is "proud supporter of ND"

It doesn't say "driven by ND"

Before Timmy the Tit gets on his evidence high horse again, it looked just like him, but I no I did not stop him, ask him for his ID and take a picture/video of the whole exchange.

It actually doesnt even matter that much, if I wanted to shame him and I knew for a fact it was him, I would have tagged him and his teams etc on social media, I didn't do that for a reason.

This was more posted because "we" as also drive like twats when we are the first to scream about cars and me about bakkies.

  11. Yes it was him, as I stopped next to him when he pulled off

So what you saying is he was in the right side lane that has an arrow pointing straight head and jumped the queue of cars on the left side all turning left.....? Yes

I would have expected to see an irate drive in the left lane with an arm out of the window... Out of shot.

Doesn't appear that he jumped a red light because the image shows its red for East bound traffic and therefore green for North South bound traffic. Because when he did it, it was green, lights change. This isn't a clip from a dash cam, it took a few seconds to get the picture taken.

Do we know if he asked politely to tun left after changing his mind re parking opportunity (york Road vs beach front? We don't I do, he wasn't planning on parking there as he drove all the way to park at Reactrion Rd.

Picture tells a 1000 words but those words are necessarily the truth (but likely the truth from a point of view)

Yeah you are right, I didn't PROVE, to you that this is what happened, but I am known for lying so please take what I say with pinch of salt. 🙄

I hope you didn't take this picture from your car whilst driving, that would be naughty naughty (but we all do it)!!

To be honest, yes I took the picture from the diver side of the car. I was not moving as the white bakkies parked across the road had stopped the traffic. It was not right of me, I fully accept that.

I was also thinking the same! He wanted to get there before the on shore picked up and gave the waves a wobble.

He has definitely turned from the right hand 'straight' lane. He is way too far from the curb to be in the correct lane.

As annoying as that is, the cyclists blow through that red light from the fish hoek side more often that not. No one even looks left or in front of them for people crossing the road or leaving to and from the synagogue.

As a 'Berg local I run up there most days on my way to the mountain and it's a cyclist free for all.

I treat that intersection as though I don't trust anyone to do anything they are supposed to when they are supposed to! Wicky wicky wild wild west stuff

The onshore was pumping already, the spot on Badenpowel was jammed. Never surfed there, never would with that island visible from the beach!

Not a good move and in a branded vehicle as well.

Would send to Ford Claremont and see how quickly the sponsored vehicle gets withdrawn (could just be wishful thinking though)

He is a fellow cyclist so I wouldn't want to throw him under the bakkies just yet. But he drove like douche and was found out.
