Well done Kevin, brilliant business exit right there.

Can't wait to see the new rulebook, non drafting pair category going to need lots of policemen

Probably good news that a reputable group have taken over, but on the other hand i think it (CE) will loose its exclusivity.... which has already started happening before IM people got involved, but now it will be accelerated.

One thing for sure, i think (hope) the entry costs will come down

There was a time when Iron Man was a pretty exclusive event on a far distant Island on the other side of the World, now its pretty common and there are hundreds all over the world.

OK, so now the race will be priced in USD, at a level us local Saffas will not be able to afford.

Like its exactly affordable now :w00t:

If the concept continues to expand to other countries (like IM) then the price should come down.... not many countries have gold nugget strewn streets....

Pretty much!

I hope it (the price) does come down as I'd love to do it but will the race still be the way it is now with the whole 'untamed African mtb race' marketing it has? Not so sure about that. Not all change is good. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Cape EPIC

Outback EPIC

Death Valley EPIC

Siberia EPIC

etc

Then when its saturated

Drakensberg Half EPIC

Rocky Mountain Half EPIC

Whelsh Midlands Half EPIC

Maljorca Half EPIC

etc.

I hope, like Kona (Hawaii), Cape Epic can be retained as the official World Champion event to which all the Pros aspire to. That will be cool, and economically benenificial to the Country (tourism)

At an informal pre-announcement media briefing earlier today Kevin Vermaak indicated that this is very much the goal.

The Cape Epic is to become what Kona is to Ironman within an international mtb series of sorts.

What was made very clear is that Kevin will be a key influencer in the mountain biking component of the group, including the Cape Epic, even though no longer as involved in the day to day operations.

So I'd imagine much of the essence of what has made the Epic a success will be retained, plugging into the expertise and resources within the WTC "mothership" where it makes sense.
