CCC is a Pro conti team that became world tour. They not the BMC team with a new sponsor, they CCC Pro Conti with a WT license and some staff/riders from the old BMC team.

They doing not too shabby.

Katusha are underperforming compared to years past but you think that their pressure is any less than AG2R or Ineous who are expecting a GC overall win or a random wildcard who have to prove their worth and sent riders into a break every day?

Different goals, same pressure to perform.

Just wondering what your assessment of TDD is at the moment (LM issues, signing the Amstel podium and then all under performing to the point of complete anonymity as well as the lack of even getting into breakaways) and Cav' in particular. Do you think he can make a come back next year and where might that be as I'd guess TDD will not renew his contract past this year and the last 12 months haven't shined up the CV for a new team.

I guess thats true, I know for Ineous though just from the financial statements that there is a massive release of a bonus provision as Chris is injured and wont have the possibility of earning his bonus. This is similar position for the rest of the team, pressure is on for a bonus, where other teams its a little more get a ride/sponsor for next season.

Thanks for the info on CCC, I now remember the previous CCC team, was not sure about the make up of team. I guess a few teams find themselves in that awkard step between the two. (While being in WT)

And maybe Dr Carol Austin rehired?

@ JW : Do you know where she is now and why she seemingly left TDD?

By that token is she married to Barry Austin from Konica Minolta fame (back in the mid 2000’s with Peter Velits and his brother)....and is he still boering around in Europe managing cycling teams?

Last I heard he was with the Ladies Canyon SRAM team as assistant manager, but that seems to have ended in 2018

Correction edited “still” married to

She was never married to Barry, that is Ciska Austin. She is married to the Gentleman who if I am correct "owns" started Qubeka amongst other things.

That bonus is still very machine play with Geraint as it always has been. They "shared" leadership but ultimately Geraint is leader and pressure can also be that if you dont win, you have no contract for 2020. Thats how high some stakes are.

I dont think Cav will come back. If you look at his performance timeline as of late the answer for me is no. He was incredible in his heyday but that is past imho. He even made a comment some time last year where he said he is scared in the sharp end of sprints. That alone is telling.

Valgren to me has been a massive head shaker, I have followed him since Saxo days and he has shown progression every year and seemed to Peak last year. Often when that happens to a athlete they have a less than stellar following year and then pick it back up in year 2 again. Look at athletes post olympics as an example.

LM - I have said before that maybe his results like the 8th are his limit and we need to be incredibly proud of that, we dont have anyone coming up soon that will do that in a GT. He has had problems and now a messed up wrist. Lets hope Vuelta is a turn around finally for him.

As a team I hope they do turn around and get back to some decent results consistently wether that is a GC win or stages or podiums.

I just know the changes made within our team this year and all that goes with that has been amazing and rough at the same time but it seems to be working as we have gone from 15th to 6th so far on rankings but it was a clean slate of planning. Maybe that is what is needed over there and start from ground 0 again.

As one of the biggest names in cycling, they probably should have included his exclusion in the press blurb - it was always going to cause a stir despite his results so they could have pre-empted that.

Cav also messed up the @qhubeka twitter handle in his message, this lovely chika from jozi hasn't tweetd in 4 years is going to wonder what happened to her twitter

Maybe so, but at the end of the day why?

It's about the team selection and who is going, imho the defensiveness around this is nonsensical.

I agree

I also find the baying of the hounds approach by the media and public ridiculous.

Cav would likely never have made it to Paris, so would likely be in the mix for 2 possible stage wins. Not 8 or 9 like in the past.

The team selection is spot on re form, the route and the current need to bank points.
