That would be my train of though as well. As DB says it’s the utter lunacy of some rules that make less than FA sense .

Absolutely.

I don't blame the retailer. They are trying to do business in an incredibly difficult environment. Also. I just checked now and I can buy that very same tumble dryer from the SAME retailer online and get it delivered.

If you give too much thought to these rules you're just going to drive yourself mad.

Anyways.

I just think it's pretty miff that after 30 years Liverpool were cruising to their 1st league win and boom!

The rest I couldn't really care about, but that is just cruel!

Its an easy solution that gets complicated by politics.

They

re top of the log so award them the title.

No relegation's for the 20/21 season. Tough for the 1st division teams coming up but its the most fair outcome for all.

Unfortunately we are in a populated area where half of our radius is in the ocean, not leaving us much choice as to where we can exercice. If we had 10km we could go ride past the N7, contermanskloof, a little bit of vissershok and tygerberg valley rd... we wouldn't have to be on top of each other on the beach front or loop around trafic circles in the suburbs... but anyways, this is what we have, and I'm not risking a massive fine just to get a little bit of quiet and gradient

I'm seeing more and more of my strava buddies in the Seaboard extending their radius. I think it's the gatvol thing as others have mentioned. I'd be lying if I say I did not consider doing this myself. But to me it's more of a boredom issue: you can only ride/run around Signal Hill so many times. As for health safety: to avoid the masses you just have get up before 6 and avoid the promenade (I seriously don't why people have such a need to be on the prom).

At the moment I'm just happy to have health, a full paying job and being able to exercise outside my apartment. But who know how long either of these (incl the happiness) will last...

Just an observation, here in Durbanville the 5km radius thing is really more like a friendly suggestion and group rides are compulsory for the majority of riders. so yesterday when I left at 7h15 for my 2 hour ride I thought "No problem, loads of other people also ignore the rules so I would be fine stretching the deadline by 15 minutes"

8h55 4km from home, Spes Bona road who few minutes earlier resembled a mass funride was instantly deserted and I was on completely on my own. Feeling exposed & guilty I quickly turned around and chased home, did not see another cyclist for the rest of the ride. Only back in the suburbs a few daring joggers & walkers were pushing the time boundary with me but all the cyclists were gone.

Guess I have to give it to my community, most follow at least this one rule.

I have noticed as well, the roads empty right sharp just before the curfew. It's surreal.

I increasingly only get home 9:30-ish, and everytime I'm over the limit I get passed by SAPS or encounter EMPD parked on the side of the road. Everytime they wave a greeting which I return and all is well with the world.

I avoid it after 8 because of the amount of people over there, but yesterday I was doing my 100km challenge and it's the only place in the neighbourhood where you can roll without stopping every 5 mins to a trafic light. 1st world problem yes...!

As much as I would love riding on contermansklof road and vissershok I don't want to take chances in extending my radius because I'm to affraid of the consequences... Seems that depending on which cop catches you, you can end up with a slap on the wrist or a R5000 fine or a broken arm... So i'm gonna keep doing loops in sunningdale or zwift until zwift is the only thing that's allowed to stay fit

How are the cops going to catch you? I haven't heard of anyone being caught outside their POT. I see a lot of people in my area whom I know live a long way from me and they're way outside their radius...I mean waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outside. Just going through my strava "following" there's plenty of people riding to areas where there are far less people but these areas are outside their radius.

I don't see how being outside your radius spreads the virus if its killed by sunlight and is dissipated quite rapidly but thats just me applying logic to what the health experts are saying about this thing.

The only way you will get caught is if:

1) Government passes a law that require the mobile network providers to provide GPS or LTE/3G/4G/5G signal location of your phone on specific days,

2) The PPA decides to follow your STRAVA and rat you out.

3) SAPS decides to follow you on STRAVA.

4) You post your rides to STRAVA and available for everyone to see..

5) You have an accident and need to medi-evaced to hospital...

6) You have a puncture and need your wife to come and collect you ( youjust know ts going to be all over WHATSAPP faster than 5G.

7) Some other Snitching tactic..

8) you get stopped for not wearing a mask and they want your address details.

The biggest things to concern yourself with is covering your mouth and nose and make sure you're close to home by 9am then you'll be fine. And don;t do things that draws attention to yourself like wearing pink or short socks.

GENERAL comment ....

Clearly a (growing) segment of cyclists are not wearing masks\buffs ...

Clearly a (growing) segment of cyclists are riding outside the circle of death, and way past the 9:00 ....

AND we already KNOW that journalists have used this very thread to publish a NOT so nice article about cyclists .....

now for a moment, imagine some parallel universe where the covid numbers are increasing, where POLICE are catching it, and getting every more gatvol of people putting their lives in danger ....

Wonder how long before somebody starts posting about "being harassed" by a cop for driving further and later .....

he's referring to that article were the PPA was quoted as reprimanding cyclists for not wearing masks and going outside the 5km POT, and riding in groups,...........then in their next article they said they encouraged cyclists to ride in groups for safety...

some very bad political grandstanding
