Just being devils advocate here, but are we not becoming a pansy, litigious society. Dam I would have just chalked that up to whatever.

I really thing we need to grow a thicker skin, next we are going to complain about cyber bullying and name calling. We really have reached the bottom.

You are right, I have noticed its usually the 'boytjies' who are the first to whine about name calling

Update:

I was contacted by a lady from the "Stay wider of the rider" campaign and she has requested the details of the victim which I'll pass on because the chairman would like to take this case on due to the breaking of the 1m rule.

I really hope they get some results from this, but the odds is not in our favor ....

Very harsh crimes don't even get the punishment it deserves.

My only comment on this thread would be.... Something needs to be done to makes this guys skrik and catch a wake up. It's all "harmless fun" until someone gets hurt. So before someone gets hurt they need to realise the consequences of their actions so they will think twice next time. If that involves having to fork out some lawyers fees and stand before a magistrate and be liable for costs then great.

I think a suitable settlement will involve some sore of community service. Ideally something involving cycling infrastructure or community projects like the ones Qhubeka runs.

It will be more useful for all involved than a suspended sentence or a fine. It will give it a nice 'full-circle" kind of end to the whole story.

(But this is putting the cart waaaaay ahead of the horses. Baby steps to get there still)

Would you have crashed on the Chappies descent if you were on your MTB? ;)

Ha! Almost definitely not.... I wouldn't be a grumpy invalid now.... But I also wouldn't enjoy riding our morning loop on the mtb nearly as much as I do on the roadie.

Besides, my sexy white dancing shoes don't mate with my mtb pedals!

No I don't run around slapping people. By the dictionary definition, it probably is assault and legally the victim is well within his rights to lay a charge.

But seriously, is a slap on the backside worthy of criminal charges, court appearances, legal fees etc.

When I read the title of this thread, I imagined a cyclist being beaten up, covered in blood lying in the road in Camps bay, not someone slapped on the backside.

Personally, I would probably also be annoyed if a bunch of misfits was having fun at my expense and would probably like to return the favour with a klap to the face, but I wouldn't do that and I wouldn't go through all the hassle of laying charges, but that is just me.

Everybody else has a different opinion and that's great. The victim is within his rights to lay a charge, but considering how stressed our police and justice system is, I suspect nothing will come of it.

seems are really conflicted about how you feel but the inner boytjie reckons you must take the macho stance.

fair enough, we all have our inner demons

Maybe that is why admin is closing the one thread after the other ... he is running out of disk space at the moment.

(Since we are going off-topic, maybe someone can tell us where this comes from)

The thing that annoys me is the following line:

You can upload up to 3.75GB of files (Max. single file size: 2MB)

Who came up with that Spec...?

So I can't upload a 2.5MB good quality photo of the latest Spez Tarmac..... But 1 920 photo's at 2MB each is OK?

I Don't know about this are we not breeding a group of Pansies.

Was there really any physical harm (I understand the maybe. could have scenarios)

Regarding cyber bullying and emotional damage. Really. Unless you are a millennial with a thin skin what harm can anything someone says do you? This is off topic though: But really if you feel someone is threatening you online, deal with it, ignore it or take yourself out of that circle.

Same as saying you cant call someone of colour a monkey. So in stead I can muster up all the expletives I can think of for that person and I will be ok. Crimean injuria case coming but that is noting compared to what the racial slur will bring to bear down on me.

I tell you society has become a bunch of pansies keyboard worriers. The sad thing is that nothing a keyboard warrior can do will upset me, unless they have exposed me of something to be worried about, and then I should.

Good god we have become wimps. (not detracting from the person the OP posted about's right to make a case. But damn was it not that person's right to post.

Anyway back to my cave as I seem to be considered a Neanderthal.

I think the bigger issue here is that this type of prank is potentially very dangerous to cyclists and should be nipped in the bud, not so much about the actual physical harm that was done in this case(don't think anyone is under illusions there)

On the rest, I have some sympathy, can't say I have ever been hurt by a stranger shouting at me on the interwebs. But also I don't think we have ever lived in a world where we could say what we want to whoever we want. The things people get offended by just changed over time

Aaaahhhh .....

THIS is the FIRST lesson you learn when entering digital photo competitions !

A larger file size does NOT equal a better DIGITAL photo.  (large file sizes are only required for printing)

When uploading to Facebook and various similar sites your photo is automatically adjusted to NOT exceed any of the following parameters :

- file size is reduced, typically to less than 500kb

- long side of the photo to have a maximum of 2048 pixels

- maximum of 300 dpi resolution

Upload a larger file and they apply a crude algorith to shrink it ... resulting in a truly cr@p photo quality !!

Export it from Lightroom (or similar) with these settings and you end with a good quality photo looking as good as a "large photo" when viewed on a screen

In the export setting also select "sharpen for screen", as apposed to "sharpen for matt paper" when you export a large file for printing.

It is downright sad to see the cr@p quality of a "large photo" that was automatically shrunk, vs a photo which was purposefully exported with the correct settings.

Okay, where were we ..... aaaaaa, right, back to narrow vs wide tires vs rider stability .....

Something else to consider, given the climate of bike jackings and muggings. Say the rider was armed and reacted, within rights.

We'd be having a very different conversation about the results of a very stupid prank and who are pansies.
In fact regardless of speculation of who or what came off second best. The bred pansy is not the chap on the bike.

Had endless headaches back when I was in IT and and bandwidth was measured in Kb not Mb or Gb.

Office lacky inserts hi res images into power point or word, resizes them only by dragging the image box in the app. Document lands up at 10mb, email system rejects it. Calls IT.

Now you have to try and sit and explain to the office lacky that dragging the image box only changes the size it is viewed at, not the file size.

Eish!

In my world, a sit down between the youngsters and the bra on the bike would be best.

An apology and a word or few from the bra on the bike. The experience of a hard whack on the boom-boom is helluva impactful especially if accompanied by an engine purring and the sense of proximity of a metal object weighting several tons.

Let's call it a moment of mutual truth or reckoning. Or an opportunity for restoration.

The worlds of litigation and law enforcement has its place; just not yet.

Anyway back to my cave as I seem to be considered a Neanderthal.

I posted the video because it was sent to me and so the victim could see that there is footage of what took place, He could choose whether to take action or not, And also to make people aware that this is not at all "fun and games" because if this was not shared, next time the next rider may not have been so lucky and then it would've been "Oh well you should've shared the video the 1st Time which could've avoided this incident because it's not their 1st time they've done this".

If you feel that you only need to involve yourself or create awareness when something affects you directly, then that's the way you can live your life, But I shall create awareness where I can the same as I would do with GBV crimes and child abuse so the people around me know I don't tolerate it. With your mindset if people you know are abusing woman and children, you wont say anything because hey, you not the victim right?? I am cyclist who use that stretch of road atleast 3 times a week so I had every right to share the video even though I was not the victim, and as stated before, he has now been located due to the video going viral!
