Yeah, no excuse for an angry physical response with someone’s kid bruh.  As for sleep deprived and pressured situations, we’ve been through several with former colleagues and I working up to 68 hours non-stop (edit: full steam, not relay, no breaks for anyone) on extreme medical rescues (including a loaded bus in a river at the bottom of a mountain gorge) on coffee and energy drinks.  And long hours on this:  https://www.bowmanslaw.com/insights/shipping-aviation-and-logistics/greatest-maritime-rescue-ever/

No-one in our teams ever thought that stress or sleep deprivation was an excuse for being unprofessional.  Just saying.  I’m not surprised that MvdP was apologetic for being the angry oom in an onderbroek.

I disagree. They poked the bear. His bokkie had already asked nicely to stop. I have no problem with naughty kids being chased away. I have no problem with them falling over when they get chased.

Physically grabbing, potayto potarto if that is assault. I know Chopper Read is gone but someone needs to tell little Lucy what to do about her carpet burn. If the kids are old enough to be left without adult supervision then they need to act a bit adult too. Calling the police, pull the other one surely.

Mvdp reaction is totally understandable, the guy is well known for his cycling ability not negotiation skills. You complaining he needs to get dressed properly first sounds like you haven't really thought about how this played out.

I didn't think this would still be a story, but has it been made known if mvdp ever called hotel management and if other rooms also complained? It would be weird if they only targeted one door to toktokkie.

So this from someone who has never warmed to MvdP’s personality but admires his abilities .

will never forget that Amstel Gold win of his 3 years ago.

so reassuring to see the many hubbers on this thread that can be counted on to ALWAYS take the right decision in difficult situations . Just wondering how many of those cool and calculated heads ever had the pressure of a whole cycling mad nation expecting them to win a gold medal the next day.

The best post of this thread...  I hope those 2 angels get burnt... as well as their so called parents...

Got it, that there are differing views.  Also, I’m only 20% less inclined to trust the opinion of someone who puts the words “his” and "bokkie” next to one another…. 🤣

vdP apologised, but we can all take comfort that he didn’t go all Aussie...

Hotel security a bit slapgat as well.

Also, imagine if these 2 little angels had knocked on the door where the narcos were doing a sensitive drug deal! Oh dear.

My apologies, It would appear that the phrase I used would indicate that Ms Bertel's is a possession of MvdP? She does not belong to him like a bicycle, a trophy, a stroopwafel or a career. Just because she works as a model and "in marketing" for Porsche it doesn't mean she is a piece of meat to display like what the people who run her IG account do

https://www.instagram.com/roxannebertels/?hl=en

I could have just said, the bokkie that MvdP is currently dating and there would be no confusion over the possession..

ps. just incase it is not obviously clear this entire post should be in comic sans but admin removed that option.

In a culture of cancel culture and projection, conspiracy theories fit in nicely. Especially if it's someone's favourite sporting icon.
The irony is almost entertaining.

The cancel culture is the outcry to two brats being disciplined.

The world is phooqued.

20 years ago when a dog barked you went out side to check why....

In 2022 when a dog barks your neighbour phones the cops to come and fetch the dog while the reason the dog was barking is walking down the road ith the other neighbours camera, laptop and iphone.

The neighbours berate the dog owner for not having control of the dog, the cops for not catching the thief and protest the conditions the dog is kept under at the SPCA while its owner tries to sort out the issue (And probably getting robbed at the same time)

Human Beings are their own worst enemy.

Gen X was probably the last generation to grow up with their immediate community taking an interest in how you were raised. Your neighbour would set you straight not call the cops. Discipline was handed out there and then and in mostly metered fashion. Yes some people would go overboard. There was and always will be broken people.

But in today's society where if the teacher doesn't tell the parent how good and sweet that naughty little twat, Johny, is the school gets sued. Millenials were the start but its the Gen Z were we have  a real problem. All this gender neutrality , identify as a satellite K*K is going to take us back to before the bronze age. They're the fools buying into green washing and woke movements. Those are the knobs we should cancel

I agreed with you up until this point.

Gender neutrality doesn't impact discipline or how kids are raised and 'going green' also doesn't impact on how kids are raised or disciplined.

IMHO By randomly bringing these unrelated subjects into the picture you're also highlighting how judgemental the older generations are and how blameless they see themselves.

What will inherently take us back to the bronze age is the inability for society to give up it's luxuries and advancement in favour of sustainability, not how people identify with themselves.

The industry behind this is mostly being driven by old men from 'the good' generations

I'll get into this point later. It speaks to the erosion of good science to inform reason and logic. This is increasingly being replaced by "feelings" as the control mechanism for how we legislate and regulate.

e.g. I feel I am this therefore you cannot tell me I am not b#gger science and biology

I feel this will hurt XYZ therefore you cannot do this b#gger the science

somehow we think total freedom to express  is a good thing when it suits a narrative.

Some people can express their passions and feeling at will while others must keep it under control. It ll depends what part of the woke movement you with or against. That's all BS

mmm. If you think the earth is flat, then I support your right to think that, but it doesn't mean I agree. If you believe in a different science, then I support your right to do so.

There has to be an overlap, with acceptance, patience and empathy. It's not 'my way or the highway'

Rodney King said it best when he said 'can't we all just get along?'. from the looks of things, we cannot. And THAT'S why we're doomed. But it's been like that since we crawled out the oceans, so there's that

It's the same as religion then.

How come that is acceptable if science exists?

The older we get, the less we like to accept change. There has to be tolerance and I firmly believe that these things are nowhere near as impactful on the world as the old men pulling the strings and driving economy, industry and war.

Science is also easily manipulated. If you extrapolate enough data from enough of a base you can suit your narrative.

Anyway, these kids were dumb, MvdP was dumb.

Situation was handled badly by all involved.
