I’ve cracked it, @Sid the Sloth. You’re basically our very own Tadej Pogačar — hates riding in the bunch, so you just go full gas all the time.

Fair strategy though… can’t be in a bunch crash if you’re not in the bunch. 😄

3 certainties in life.

Death

Taxes

@Sid the Sloth (Dan Loubser) creating and then driving a breakaway for literally as long as possible. Absolute Legend.

I will never forget, I think I posted on the Hub to about this. My first "Argus" Cape cycle tour years ago, it was scary to see how people will take others out on the bike. In that time I learned to stay close to curb on my right side. You will get a guy that will cycle 10m in front of you on your left side, then someone from his far left side will just decided that he want to go to the right side " to the other side of the road" and don't even check over his right side shoulder if it's clear, he will just go for it and in that process take the rider out that is on his right side, and this in a road where it's basically clear with riders scatter everywhere.

Staying right did not help this bloke much, and they were not even at a water point. (The link starts at 3:30:50)

Started &….

hardest first 20km I can remember. But as usual there’s the lot who have done only a couple of Argus races and have worked the seeding system to land in the age catergories. Somehow everytime they pass a timing they flippen brake or slow down 🤬

then to the box who took me down at soetwater intersection, don’t come back next year. Stay on zwift where you to belong

Oh flip was that you?!  I was in that group but thankfully at the front for that turn.

Heard it happen and then looked back to see it. Was wondering how on earth that could happen in such a small group and on a slow corner.

I was in that group, seeing it live was quite scary!

The 109km was decent, not many issues I saw in &, some oke tyre blew off the rim in simons town and managed to keep it up right, kudos to him.

The 44km was a viab with Swift's first one, he doesnt believe in bib shorts or clip in shoes yet.

Plenty of gees on the route and wow the 9E start had a lot of people.

Great morning out of cycling and lots of excited talk about next year!

Maybe my last sub 3 for 4 or 5 years...

I'm still trying to workout how on a wiiiiiiiiide slow corner he felt it necessary to switch my front wheel/clip my bars. I was also taking that corner as wide as possible while trying to shorten the distance to the wheels in front of me. What I recall is the box looking at me as he drifts into me and whack my bars right out of my hands.

As murphy's law would have it, Quite an uncomfortable wind for yesterday CTCT and in true CT Fashion, not even 24hrs later The Mother City produces a pearler of a day with a very slight cooling breeze, which would have made for near perfect race conditions.

I HEAR you, but it is presently 35-Degrees C in Paarden Eiland, and expected to be 35-Degrees when I commute back home at 4pm today - I DO hope these 'cooling breezes' of which you speak, materialize ;)

Each of has a particular experience from Sunday ....

@SilverRider @Scary Rider and myself started at different times.

The tandem first .... they noted it being chilly in a few spots ....

I was not that far behind the tandem ... never cool, if anthing getting hot through Chappies and Suikerbossie, though Garmin suggests mid to high 20's ...

90 minutes later it was significantly hotter along Chappies ....

Strange sitting around a table and sharing such varing experiences from the same ride.

Then again, as locals we know how the weather changes along this route on any given day.

As to your point .... a lot hotter today !!!  Would have been a much tougher ride for the riders starting later

We had a rather spectacular day out there enjoying the freedom on the Cape. Fell back a few groups and cycled with my wife who was on her ebike. A mate of mine "Hennie" decided to join us as well. Departed at a leisurely 7:36am, stopped in Kalk Bay for our first coffee at Vida and then cruised through to the Deli at Noordhoek for another coffee and munchie stop at the Deli.
The long rest did wonders for the legs and the missus's tender tush and Chappies and Suikers were a breeze on rested coffee legs 🙃
Had a wonderful time shooting the breeze with the other riders and spotted some beautiful old steel classics still doing active duty.
Of course we also encountered a fair number of plonkers as well who bore the blunt of my best Afrikaans expletives regarding their mother and how they ride... I apologize to those who were around me at the time.
Outstanding day out there, next year same time and place? 👍
