I ride 30t chainring with a 42t cassette on my mtb, and 38t chainring with 42t on the gravel bike and I get away with mostly the same sort of climbs on the two - obviously not very techy climbs on gravel bike though. Mainly riding flats?Drop bars and hopefully a fairly light build - I ride a 36 on my current hardtail gravel bike and have never used the 50.
