About the entry fee and what should happen to it:

I am happy to give my entry fee to what the bulk of it is intended for:

The very worthy charities that cannot do what they do without that money. If a couple of hundred rand will make you feel better about the cancellation of the tour, then you have bigger issues than I can help with.

Personally, I think that most reasonable people will see it like that. If your attitude is the same as the cancellation of a music concert that was meant to line the pockets of a rock group, then perhaps you should do some self reflection on how you operate in society.

If that entry fee refund is what will put food on the table for your kids this month, then perhaps you never should have entered. If you feel you could have bought another cycling gadget with it, perhaps you should think about your own priorities.

If it puts food on the table for someone who would have gone hungry, or fix someones eyesight, or help an abused child escape, then I am totally happy with my donation. If some of it ends up with the PPA and it helps build a cycle track, or improve safety or fund a development rider, I'll be smiling even wider!

But that's just me of course. If you choose to be a suurgat, that is your choice and you have to live your selfish life with it. I chose the positive approach.

N.B. This is not directed at any specific individual, rather at all who know the price of everything, but the value of nothing!

Could not have said it better

I think they need to look at creating a few more options for the visiting cyclists. I live locally so it doesn't bother me much that its cancelled, I can go ride the route tomorrow. But for cyclists from out of town and overseas its a problem, and they'll probably opt for another race given the uncertainty of the race being blown out/blocked/shortened each year. I suggest they look at putting on another event on Sat and maybe even Friday that cyclists can optionally participate in, thus making it enticing as a full weekend of cycling. How about a timed CTCT hill climb for riders on Sat morning or maybe some crits on fri evening. The guys need to offer more for cyclists who are here enjoying the festivities.

Today we rode with a Dutch couple that did the TOGH and heard about savage in Instagram and came for a ride this morning. They have had an amazing ride, the blown out days did not dampen their spirits at all!

They had a lekker ride down to cape point today after hammering with us to Chappies. It is what you make of it I guess.

If you do mail them make sure you never use the word "refund" else it gets an instant reply saying they don't do refunds.

When you word your email to exclude that and enquire about the second lap entrants you yet again get the finger.

I would like to know what is the situation with regards to those of us

who entered for a second lap?

Regards,

Paul Roux

Good day Paul

Thank you for your email.

What has been confirmed is that no entrant will be refunded or compensated.

We are not in a position to make refunds due to the event being cancelled, as stipulated in clause 1.5 contained in the rules and regulations of entry: http://wwww.cycletour.co.za/enter/rules-and-regulations/

The rule is as follows:

The Cycle Tour will take place regardless of bad weather and will only be cancelled, re-routed or stopped for reasons of safety. In this event, entry fees are not refundable.

This rule applies to the riding twice entry too.

Kind Regards

A new low even by their already low standards. We did receive refunds for 2nd lap in 2015 eventually.

Clearly CTCT only interested in lining their pockets. Made me sick listening to Bellairs slapping himself on the back last night on SS.

If you look at the treasurer's report from the last PPA AGM you will see that their pockets are already lined very well and the CTCT is a big cash cow for them.

Now personally I would happily live with all that if only they carried my double entry over to 2018.

If everyone's entry carries over to next year they would largely be hosting the next race for free?

In essence carrying over entries is only slightly less expensive than refunding everyone.

Ok so who is doing the Ama Shova?

How do you get back to PMB to pick your car up?

Me definitely, did it last year for the 1st time. An amazing event, also going to do Tour Durban next month so all the training didn't happen for nothing.

As far as I know generally you park your car in Durban, catch a bus with bike to the start?

Not sure if there is a reverse trip for after, and don't remember there being secure parking near start either. . .

Clearly riders doing a double costs them nothing extra (other than an additional start card) but they can't help themselves. Greed has taken over, riders can carry the can for their lack of foresight and planning.

The reality is that the offer of preferential entry into the event for 2018 is worthless.

No one who has wanted to enter this event for at least the past 3 or 5 years has been able to get an entry. Hell, I was able to enter a double lap this year on February 23 AND add a completely new rider to join me on the tandem. They happily took the extra R1,020.

The only people who may have battled were those who were so fast asleep they were unaware of the cut off dates and probably were not very serious about riding.

People who join PPA solely to get preferential entries to this event are wasting their money.

It is a known fact that the CTCTT sell more than 35,000 entries which is the maximum allowed by the permits issued knowing full well that the WillNotPitch rate is very high. When last did this event see more than 30,000 finishers? The difference between the starters and finishers is a tightly held secret but is nowhere near 5,000 riders.

You did read the terms and conditions before you clicked that little box in the lower left corner when you entered, didn't you? It says "agree". It is a legal contract you entered into, just the same as signing up for insurance where it says they are not responsible for acts of war. They have no control over war, just as the CTCT has no control over the weather. If you are not willing to take that small risk, currently running at 39 to 1 against cancelling, you are welcome to not attend next year. If you expect the CTCT to promise re-funds for a case like this past Sunday, there will NEVER be another race of this kind. The financial risk for the organizers will simply be too large. BTW. that is why governments have to sign surety for things like the Commonwealth Games or the Olympics. Without it, the risk of financial ruin for the organisation is simply too severe. In the case of the CTCT, the losers will be some very deserving charities.

No bitterness at all then ? [emoji23]
