  1. 1. Are you finding it increasingly difficult to sell things on the classifieds?

    • I sell things quickly and easily - it seems people have money

    • I find it rather difficult to sell things - I struggle to sell and get low ball offers

And I quote from the AD: "I am doing mainly MTB endurance riding, and have used the Sportive approximately 5 times on the road. The bike is BRAND NEW!!!!"

Edit: Seriously, there must be a secret society getting together somewhere discussing how to describe second-hand bikes and then posting it here!

"Bought 3 years ago but used less than 20 times. Brand new, just been serviced."

How does one give a buyer a rating? Marked my add as sold, put the buyers name in, but didnt get an option to rate them.

Edit - nevermind, the link was sent to me ????

I can understand why its difficult selling at the moment ito COVID-19, no-one wants to spend at the moment, but there’s some other issues too.

I’m building a new road bike, and generally use the classifieds for my parts. But now I’m stuck ito which parts to buy. 10 speed cranks are incompatible with 11 (4 vs 5 bolt), wheels is disc vs rims, and thru axle (qr adapter) vs QR, and 10sp freehub vs 11 speed freehub, etc.

Shimano and Campagnolo standards have changed so much that you pretty much shoot yourself in the foot buying older components as you can’t upgrade one component at a time … it’s all or nothing, so best is to go with new and forgo the 10sp, rim-brake and non-boost(mtb) etc. bargains?

I haven't followed this fred so I hope this is somewhere I can write a little high 5 moment -

Did my first purchase through the classifieds, pair of Zipp wheels from Bassman.

Within a couple hours he had entertained my questions, arranged to meet, and deal was done. The wheels were as advertised - incredibly good condition, and it was just the smoothest process I've ever been through.

Happy me, happier bike.

To those looking for an Escrow service, this popped up on one of my pages .worth a shot.

I used the Shepherd Secure escrow service a couple of years back on a bike purchase, turned out the owner of the shop already sold the bike and the salesman was none-the-wiser. Think the shop would have honoured the refund anyway, but the guys from Shepherd returned my money within a couple of days. (Sadly they stopped operating recently)

Definitely worth a consideration for higher value items.

The difference is only R105...no big deal!!

The difference is: no till slip, no warranty, no aftersales should there be an issue. Yes it is UNUSED, but not new. It is technically secondhand...and therefor not worth the same price as the new one that offers those securities that after sales support does imo.

R2.5k max...probably more like R2k....since its 11spd and all

The seller is shop based...so warranty, receipt etc, etc I'm sure will be included. Phone him to check, if you want.
