EddieV Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I can understand why its difficult selling at the moment ito COVID-19, no-one wants to spend at the moment, but there’s some other issues too. I’m building a new road bike, and generally use the classifieds for my parts. But now I’m stuck ito which parts to buy. 10 speed cranks are incompatible with 11 (4 vs 5 bolt), wheels is disc vs rims, and thru axle (qr adapter) vs QR, and 10sp freehub vs 11 speed freehub, etc. Shimano and Campagnolo standards have changed so much that you pretty much shoot yourself in the foot buying older components as you can’t upgrade one component at a time … it’s all or nothing, so best is to go with new and forgo the 10sp, rim-brake and non-boost(mtb) etc. bargains?
Chris_ Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I haven't followed this fred so I hope this is somewhere I can write a little high 5 moment - Did my first purchase through the classifieds, pair of Zipp wheels from Bassman. Within a couple hours he had entertained my questions, arranged to meet, and deal was done. The wheels were as advertised - incredibly good condition, and it was just the smoothest process I've ever been through. Happy me, happier bike. slickjay007, Vetplant, Myth and 2 others 5
Vetplant Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 To those looking for an Escrow service, this popped up on one of my pages .worth a shot. https://www.standardbank.co.za/southafrica/personal/products-and-services/ways-to-bank/innovative-payment-solutions/escrow-service?cid=WPS_mk2W3&gclid=Cj0KCQjwrIf3BRD1ARIsAMuugNtr8Bb2eHSw4Oo5krRwc60UbtGW30DNrLw1vfKJMzUo8jujYytalu8aAvYuEALw_wcBI used the Shepherd Secure escrow service a couple of years back on a bike purchase, turned out the owner of the shop already sold the bike and the salesman was none-the-wiser. Think the shop would have honoured the refund anyway, but the guys from Shepherd returned my money within a couple of days. (Sadly they stopped operating recently) Definitely worth a consideration for higher value items. EddieV 1
Hairy Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 So this is a KCNC 11 spd cassette for sale at R3100.00https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/cassettes/408665/kcnc-11spd-cassette-9-44t-xd But you can also buy a new one from EVO at R2995.00https://www.evobikes.co.za/components/kcnc-cassette-11spd-cromo-alloy-9-44-sram-xd-325g.html Steven Knoetze (sk27) 1
MORNE Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 The difference is only R105...no big deal!!The difference is: no till slip, no warranty, no aftersales should there be an issue. Yes it is UNUSED, but not new. It is technically secondhand...and therefor not worth the same price as the new one that offers those securities that after sales support does imo. R2.5k max...probably more like R2k....since its 11spd and all Dexter-morgan, Mojoman, Hairy and 1 other 4
RobbyB Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 The seller is shop based...so warranty, receipt etc, etc I'm sure will be included. Phone him to check, if you want.
MORNE Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 11spd is soooo 2016 Yet much future...very wow - for me at least haha. Im still stuck in 1885 with 1x10 spd lol Hairy and BaGearA 2

Phone him to check, if you want. Then he should state this in the advert, that the goods come with those securities .. until then this is an item that is essentially a second hand item without any warranty at all. So for R105 less from EVO you can get all the securities of a newly purchased item, at a lower price. Also, why should we have to call someone to find out if they have warranties attached to their sales? The onus is on the seller to be clear and concise regarding the product being sold. Dirt Tracker Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Doesn’t seem it’s too hard if if you’re selling a Hope HB160 for R55k which was listed last night about 10pm. Either the seller reconsidered or it was listed, sold and removed in record time. I was scratching around to make sure I could get the money and then it was gone. Only just got over that. T-Bob 1
