Listen, we talking TDF and TDD here

Not Proteas and WCC

I’m thinking to lay some bets (at good odds) that TDD will surprise us in a good way

I also have a feeling in my gut that they might surprise us.  I've won a few of our Company Superbru pools by listening to my gut and going with a Hail Mary prediction which has paid off.  I'm going out on a limb and will say I reckon Cav will win a stage....

I also have a feeling they might do better than they have so far this year.

My Feeling is more from the form of Reinhardt, Nizollo and Reinhardt rather than from Cav.. (He did not oce make the sprint in the Tour of Slovenia)

I would also rather see Meintjies although I am not sure we will get better results in the mountains than Cav sprinting .

I guess the naming of the team can not be far of so lets see if Doug will surprise or not.

Looking at the past year, I wouldn't have thought that Stevo would podium in 2019 at all...

He proved me wrong, he can still pedal a bike

EDIT: It was the British TT Championships...

I saw Eddy came third in the Norwegian ITT yesterday.

He was going for his 10th win of that title so the result is a bit of a disappointment I guess.

Maybe he was on a mtb with slicks in order to give the others a chance  :)

According to an article in the latest SA Bicycling Magazine Meintjes more or less confirmed that he does not have the power to go on sustained and successful attacks and therefore he just follows hoping for the others to fade.

His honesty is refreshing but the contend of the article does not give me any confidence that he will win a stage

Yep, would have liked to see Eddy in his national jersey again.

Think EBH and Ben King is their only real chances of stage success imho.

Taking Cav on his reputation is like the Proteas taking Hash to the world cup based on his legacy and ignoring his last two seasons... and look how that worked out for them.

Eddie B has given them their best results this year..would be madness not to take him.

Cav has not only lost his speed but his nerve, would be stupid to take him just because he is Cav... unless he goes in break always and hope they survive, there is little to zero chance of him getting a bunch sprint win.. The team are also not good enough to enforce themselves at the pointy end of sprint stages they just can't keep up with the stronger teams and get pushed aside easy peasy to the better organised teams.

Dimension Data brand will disappear soon by all accounts, wonder if that means the end of the cycling team or will it be rebranded NTT.

Rumour has it that the team will be disbanded end of 2020

Cav had ok results coming into 2016 TdF, and then won 4 stages.

But it seems like a long time ago now, i just don't see him pulling rabbits out of the hat here.

only bonus is that with Gavirria out there is one less quick guy

I'm not so fazed by that now, just too disappointing supporting them hoping something good will happen. It will however close one pathway to worldtour for SA riders.

Road Race still coming up , So the Boss can be in the National jersey yet.

Lets see what Cav do at the British National, I guess that would be the last chance and if he wins then they will take him.

They are perhaps waiting to see who wins any jersey before finalising team.

If that is the case those who are selected for TDF and who have contracts running out this year should race for themselves in the hope that another team pic them up.

Where you hear the rumour?  Be interesting considering NTT have been in partnership with DD for at least the last 5 years and it was muted that DD CEO to lead NTT when it does happen

https://businesstech.co.za/news/technology/282523/dimension-data-ceo-to-lead-ntt-group/

correction, not a partnership.

DD owned by NTT

so ultimately the call comes from Japan. if they don't want to throw good money at bikeracing, then it dries up. they sponsor the ASO and a team, wouldn't be surprised if they drop one or both.

You misunderstand.  What I implied is that NTT have been involved with DD since at least 2015 https://www.dimensiondata.com/de-de/news/2017/05/ntt-group-announces-expansion-of-partnership-with-sap-for-sap-hana-enterprise-cloud

As of the 1 July 2019 they will become NTT with DD CEO as head.  https://www.dimensiondata.com/en/news/brand-unveiled-for-new-ntt-global-operating-company

So it is not totally new of NTT coming into bike racing especially as the new CEO of NTT is from DD who are involved with bike racing.and know the costs/benefits/downside or whatever.  The call may come from the new CEO even?

Hence my query with regard to the rumour?  and source?
