I'm sure there probably were, but that one came to mind as I was there on the day, and when his name was announced, I thought "Wasn't he banned a few months ago?"

Like Danger Dassie said, maybe there was a reduction, but we don't know.

Coming back to this since Legs4HillsWhereItsFlat couldn't be bothered to answer.

I remembered someone discussing that this specific case actually was reduced, because lo and behold. A SAIDS panel upheld his appeal.

Of course it didn't help that by this time he'd been tarred and feathered and CSA hadn't communicated this detail after the fact either at the time. Sporting code bodies are always notified.

I emailed SAIDS querying wether or not there was an update, they confirmed the same day along with all the documentation that there was. Sanction was reduced from 18 months to 6 months.

The site has also been updated to reflect this, according to SAIDS there was a database migration approx 2 years ago and some updated cases don't show up. But all info is recorded and backed up in anycase, so if there is a query the front end on the site is updated.

Makes for sombre reading:

How do you guys feel when you lose a strava kom to a guy who's been guilty of and served their ban for doping?

Apparently it is fine ... as long you got it in a TUEsday .... otherwise you may get a fine .... which is also fine .... so fine either way ....

Correct, it is covered in both hearings.

In the case of a medical IV drip administered by a medical professional in an event though, there is provision to apply for a retrospective TUE as theres a demonstrable medical need.

Think what's more telling is the doctor's description of events, copping to the confusion/distracted and not being able to provide required documents because of a dispute with the medical services provider.

well then SAIDS will have a field day in the medical tent at the Cape Epic or any other long stage race.

being prosecuted for dehydration just seems overreaching IMO

Doesn’t dehydration push up your blood hematocrit level (red blood cell count) which could indicate blood doping or epo usage......?

I know the above is a bit simplified, I’m sure the doping authorities know the difference ????????

“lose a strava kom”

Where I live there are no danger of that happening

True. Saffa pro's and dopers are quite slow, so us has-beens and never-was crowd can pick em up quite easily.

I suppose I should feel pretty good that he could only take 1 second off of me.
