I wanted to try to put socks over my shoes this morning but was running late for a start at 6:00 sharp...

You recon buying those special socks for over your shoes is useless ? the plastic bags inside the shoes I've heard plenty of times for skiing and stuff but I remembered it not working so well, I'll try again. It's definitely the worst part of riding in winter, the hands or body are actually fine once warmed up, the feet are only getting worse as your socks start to be wet...

I tried those over the shies ones, they break too quickly. I suppose they'd work fine if u never put your foot down during a ride, but I found the stitching at the bottom way too easily torn.

I got some nice mohair balega socks, but it seems being forced by incompetent morons to be out before sunrise makes them far less useful than if I were ridding in sane hours.

Did my first outside ride today, short 24km one.

Was keen to test out my form after moering zwift for the last 6 weeks. I am lucky that I have a few good short hills within my 5km radius (400m climbing in the ride), got PBs on all of them, and a few Strava top 10s. Zwift races/group rides are friggin good training.

Wore the buff as a face mask, wasn’t too bad at all, I really thought it would suck more.

Sorry to go a bit off topic.. how does the fogging work, which products are used when you do the fogging, and is it worth having it done at one's home?

We use a QAC with water and glycerin through a Thermal Fogging machine  ( dont ask me the ratios ) . For a house its only if you have had strangers in it or a confirmed case of covid 19 . Factories and warehouses are the biggest areas of concern because of stock , material and people movement in and out . We do a lot of Film /Video recording sets every day .

Tips to minimise frozen (or blue) toes.

1. Jiffy bags (as per Prins Albert Cycles's tip).

2. Hidden sock underneath normal sock.

3. Two pairs of socks.

4. Overshoes.

5. Foil wrapped over toes.

6. Assos fleece socks.

7. Have your option immediately ready at the bedside when you get up.

Just an observation, here in Durbanville the 5km radius thing is really more like a friendly suggestion and group rides are compulsory for the majority of riders. so yesterday when I left at 7h15 for my 2 hour ride I thought "No problem, loads of other people also ignore the rules so I would be fine stretching the deadline by 15 minutes"

8h55 4km from home, Spes Bona road who few minutes earlier resembled a mass funride was instantly deserted and I was on completely on my own. Feeling exposed & guilty I quickly turned around and chased home, did not see another cyclist for the rest of the ride. Only back in the suburbs a few daring joggers & walkers were pushing the time boundary with me but all the cyclists were gone.

Guess I have to give it to my community, most follow at least this one rule.

I use neoprene toe covers, something like these:

I've also used the first ascent windproof full booties (not neoprene) but I find on long rides my socks tend to get wet sometimes. The toe caps seem to work better, unless it's raining.

I tried as well... went over Vissershok on my roadbike at about 8.50 and even attempted  unsuccessfully to overtake a  bloke on a motorbike ( Harley?) in a desperate effort to make home by 9.. missed the curfew by a few minutes... exceeded my max heartbeat in the process so i hope there is no permanent damage  :)

Today my youngster got a puncture at the furthest point of our route, 3km from home. I dont have a funny MTB nozzle thing and no patch and it was FLAT. Sent granny home to fetch, had to patch it twice. Arrived home a good 40 minutes late after having his chain come off his single speed on way home. Cops are really chilled though.

Hello Hubbers, I haven't checked in on this forum for a while - I would just like some advice please:

I am/was a frequent gym goer - I am kind of an all-in-one fitness enthusiast (=as much as I enjoy cycling, I like a Bosu ball, kick class and sauna just the same). That said - I miss the gym terribly and I am feeling flabby. I am thinking of buying some of my favourite fitness equipment (they are not cheap), and wondering if I should just hang on a while until the gyms open again? What are your predictions? Will we only go back to gym July/August you think?

My guess:

Gym's like you know them are done.

We might get a slight reprieve in June, maybe down one level or two. But highly likely that most of our metros will then escalate up the ladder again as our inevitable spike arrives in July, August.

Best bit of advice:

Get yourself a Kettlebell and treadmill/IDT and figure out a home gym setup that works for you. They might even take away our 3hour exercise window if it gets really bad.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I don't think there was any particular level at which gyms open, but I read in the news that given the current projections they only looking at opening national borders between Nov and Feb, so that's level 2.

We probably not going to see open gyms till well into 2021, if not 2022. They may never actually reopen, if this goes on long enough they'll go bankrupt before they can.
