Entry paid, and email received with a reference number.

How do I go about finding out my start time ?  Or must I wait for an email ?  Or will I get all the information when I collect my race number and transponder ?

Wait for an email

If you are a racing snake and you want to hang with the fast people in your starting group, get there a little earlier and enter your designated starting chute as early as they open it. That way you will be at the front with mostly like minded competitive people. How early? It used to be at least an hour before, but that is now frowned upon. The other way is to arrive at the last minute and then push your way through the mass of people to get to the front. That was difficult because the starting chutes were so densely packed. Last year it was easy because everyone tried to stay at least a metre away from everyone else ....... and that left the perfect gap for thick skinned racing snake types to worm their way to the front.

If you are like me, and you no longer care too much about whether you take 12 699th place or 13 000th place, just rock up a few minutes before your own starting time and start with your group. Starting at the tail end of your group is also just fine, because the "fast people" from the group after yours will catch up with you before you get halfway to Hospital Bend and you can then catch a wheel from there if you so feel.

If it is too congested for your liking when you get to your own starting chute or you misjudged the time and end up too late, just go into the starting chute for the group after your own seeded one. In the middle third and later in the race, it really doesn't make much difference.

Ai tog, when I read this it sounds like I'm half dead, but really, except for the front 10%, perhaps, it is just a fun ride with glorious scenery, a great vibe, cheering spectators and car free roads to enjoy. If you overthink and over stress, it will make you miss the best part of the tour.

I’m really concerned about this lack of ambition. Surely 12698th is achievable if you try a little harder

Thanks.

First Argus, as a cyclist ... done the spectator thing in the past

NO seeding ...

E.bike .... 😋

Happy to start dead last .... used to doing this at fun rides ...

May even have a coffee stop at Seattle in Houtbay .... 🤣

Parking ?  Starting in the latter groups parking may be an issue ... CTICC ?  Ride to start from there ...

Is it easy/safe to cycle back there from the finish ?

I’d recommend the Vida E outside the Curves Gym…#lookingoutformyfriends

Few years back I was doing a fun ride outside Worcester, in the Nuy valley.

Went out way too hot, got dropped like a bad habit by the second set of hills .....  Was a long lonely race seeing the pack passing me one by one .... (this was pre ebike)

With about 5km to go the 4th or 5th last rider came past me .... enough was enough .... we started RACING for that 5th last spot !!!  At one point we were standing and WORKING those pedals !!!  Glancing to the side to see who was eeking ahead .... Apparently I wanted it more, pushed through the burning lungs and pulled ahead for the "win" .....

As jou bal in jou bibs kan hang is jou bibs moer toe.

A MAN went to the doctors suffering from a severe headache for years on end.

The doctor said, “Joe, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is it will require castration.

“You have a rare condition which causes your testicles to press on your spine, and the pressure creates one hell of a headache. The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles.”

Joe was shocked but he knew he had no choice but to go under the knife.

When he left the hospital, he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years, and he truly believed he could make a new life.

He saw a men’s clothing store and thought, “That’s what I need ... a new suit.”

He entered the shop and said, “I’d like a new suit.”

The elderly tailor eyed him briefly and said, “Let’s see ... size 44 long.”

Joe laughed, “That’s right, how did you know?”

“Been in the business 60 years!” the tailor said.

Joe tried on the suit; it fit perfectly. The salesman asked, “How about a new shirt?”

Joe was on a roll. “Sure.” The salesman said, “Let’s see, 34 sleeves and 16 ½ neck.”

Joe said, “That’s right, how did you know?”

“Been in the business 60 years.” Joe tried on the shirt, and it fit perfectly.

Joe walked comfortably around the shop, and the salesman asked, “How about some new underwear?” Joe thought for a moment and said, “Sure.” The salesman said, “Let’s see ... size 36.”

Joe laughed, “Ah ha! I got you, I’ve worn a size 34 since I was 18 years old.”

The salesman shook his head, “You can’t wear a size 34. A size 34 would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one heck of a headache.”

Any tips for training,🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ heading into the last few days before the CTCT World Champs?

In the early 90's a young sports sciences professor at UCT would have told you it is time to carbo load .....  apparently he now has a different sermon .....

Found myself having similar thoughts last night .... what can I do in terms of exercise ?  What should I eat the night before ?  Had my mind running in circles .... and then realised that I had just done a 101km ride with ZERO special diet or prep .....  so my absolute noob mind now says just carry on like normal .... and DONT get caught up in the moment and burn matches in the first 10km ....

Now to read what the experienced riders have to add

If you've trained a fair amount 👇  If not, then don't stress too much.

A typical pre-race (taper) week will look like this:

Day 1: REST – NO exercise!
Day 2: 1.5 – 2 hour easy ride at a LOW intensity and high cadence (>90 RPM)
Day 3: REST – NO exercise!
Day 4: Warm up for 30 minutes at a LOW intensity. Follow this with 4 x 4 minute intervals at an intensity corresponding to your functional (lactate) threshold. Rest (ride easy) for 10 minutes between each of the 4 minute intervals. Cool down for 30 minutes.
Day 5: REST – NO exercise!
Day 6: 1.5 – 2 hours easy ride at a LOW intensity with 5 x 2 minute accelerations to bring your heart rate up to your functional threshold for last 30 seconds of each acceleration (Use relatively hard gear and moderate cadence (70-80 RPM). Rest 5 min between each of the accelerations.
Day 7: Race day

lies, burn all of them in the first 10km. Keep 4 matches, one for smitswinkel, one for chappies, then another for chapmans once you realise it lied to you...and then one for suikerbossie.

That sounds awefully complicated. I just cut my volume almost by half last week, also reduced stress a bit on the easy rides but maintained the hard rides...

Tomorrow nothing, wednesday 5x15 secs max cadence and thursday is the start of 4 days of racing !

Then monday-tuesday off followed by 3 days with 1 easy hour, 1 day with 5x2mins at threshold the day before CTCT. Might throw in a little bit of intensity on the wednesday or thursday before CTCT depending on how I feel, don't want the legs to fall asleep.
