Bike boom - is it over?

The trick with vehicle finance (should apply to bicycles to).

The higher the amount you finance the lower the interest rate. So if you have a large deposit, its worth looking into financing the entire amount, let the first payment go through and then sticking the deposit in whilst asking the bank to recapitalize your loan.

I have also heard about this Ouzo. I tried it a few years ago with a bakkie and we tried financing a higher amount but the interest was the same on both applications.

Back to bike oil.

the mountain bike and the ebike squeel like puppies in search of their mommas if i dont oil after almost every ride, especially when i was riding in mud and mad puddles in summer.

 

the road bike lets me know it wants oil, by giving @#£& changing gears, especially going into the 28. it always waits for me to be miles from home before acting up 🙈
 

the trainer bike (runs ultegra) just goes on forever and ever without complaints, no matter long i neglect to oil, and boy, i have been a lazy bastard at times. Though it does get quite a bit quiter after a good lube.

So, I am interested to hear what all your oil regimes are like. Do you lube after every ride, after every wash, when Jupiter aligns with Mars.

Ps. I use Holy Cow. And wow, the stuff is the shiz.

Mountain bike - old sump oil before every ride takes me less than 2 min.

E-bike - nothing - my knees are still good.

Road bike - every 15 rides or so from empty can at the filling station forecourt bin unless it has rained.

Trainer - what's that.

I suppose some will say "Holy Cow" !!!  Shiz you not

Rock and a hard place ....

 

The dusty trails in summer is a tricky one.

 

 

Over lube and you gunk all over.

 

Lube a drop a link and your chain will be asking for more before the end of a long ride ....

 

 

I now do a drop a link as the normal approach, then deliberately over lube if I plan a long ride.

 

 

Let's hear if there is a better way to go about this

This thread has relevance and it highlights quite an interesting bikehub demographic. As long as the thread doesn't turn into a pit of doom and despair and we all keep the topic relevant, there is little reason to close it down. 

On that, Sunrace 8 and 9 speed stuff is dirt cheap. I priced a 9 speed shifter, RD and 11-46 cassette at 1200zar brand new. 

For a non race bike it offers everything. We are often our own worst enemies 'needing' the latest kit.

don't worry the northern hemisphere is no better at times....its not...we have the worst of everything at times

When you go to bed at night, your bikes wait till they know your’e out for the count. Then they start talking about you. And its not good. Beware the bicycle revolution. Just saying.

Pssst - just ordered some crazily discounted bits from CRC - Spank Vibracore bars for R800 that are over R2k here. Same with rims - Spank for R700 ea  - local price R1800. The disparity is staggering. Based on this I'd say that the bike boom - depending on how you understand it - is waning if not over. There was a time when CRC had very little stock and nothing of interest on sale. Order appears to have been restored, at least for what I needed right now.

I also just picked up some Spank rims for R1000 each with shipping and tax from CRC.

Also brought in some DT Swiss EX511 Rims a month or 2 back from CRC, landed to my door for about R1.5k less than I could get them locally
