CYCLIST AIRLIFTED FOLLOWING MULDERSDRIFT CRASH
GAUTENG | MULDERSDRIFT
2023/01/26
Earlier this morning Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies responded to a serious collision involving a light motor vehicle and a cyclist on the R374 in the Muldersdrift area.
On arrival on scene an elderly male cyclist was found in a critical condition. Emergency Care Practitioners worked fervently to stabilize him before a decision was made to airlift him with the assistance of the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required.
The occupants of the vehicle were not injured in the incident.

I drove past the scene this morning, the police told me that the cyclist did a U turn in front of the vehicle coming from behind. It looked as if the vehicle was overtaking, giving them appropriate space when the rider turned around to head back to bidon.

CAN NOT CONFIRM THAT IS THE TRUTH.

Just relaying what I was told and what I could see.

What Mike said above is actually correct.  Just spoken to the guy that rode with him and saw the incident happen. He made a U turn infront of vehicle coming from behind.

Currently in ICU and stable but no further update on his condition.         🙏 For a speedy recovery Andy

For those that have never seen it, look at the Garmin radar, helps you know when a car is coming up behind you. Its worth it.

Mine conked in after 3 years. Replaced it immediately. Is an absolute necessity

Knew about this device but didn't think much of it, until I tested one for a few rides. Once you have ridden with a Garmin Varia, the is no going back!

Exactly! I do a lot of road riding and will never ride without my Varia.

I also have a bright Bontrager front light that is set on flash, no mater the time of day - visibility is crucial!

Wishing a speedy recovery to the rider.

I was gifted a Varia for my birthday from a riding buddy and its really useful approaching off ramps or circles when its nice to know if there is a car barreling down on you.
