The history of coffee dates back to centuries of old oral tradition in modern-day Ethiopia and Yemen. It was already known in Mecca in the 15th century. Also, in the 15th century, Sufi monasteries in Yemen employed coffee as an aid to concentration during prayers. Coffee later spread to the Levan in the early 16th century; it caused some controversy on whether it was halal in Ottoman and Mamluk society.
Coffee arrived in Italy in
the second half of the 16th century through commercial trade routes, while Central and Eastern Europeans learned of coffee from the Ottomans.

That looks like a section of the Kirstenbosch Loop (above the actual gardens)

Yip its part of the Greenbelt Trail in the Southern suburbs...maintained by Kirstenbosh and runs just above Kirstenbosch and Newlands, part of it it inside the Gardens themselves on jeep track and some single track...definitely worth a visit for MTB or gravellers....
