the Thaba 'Nchu Sun MTB race (can't really remember the name)  rode around the reserve, tough as nails (well was for me anyways)

 

They trying so hard to keep it alive, but with the Tshwane Classic now the same weekend, I fear the race might die a slow death. Missing it this year as we are going away, otherwise we would be supporting.

The Willem Prinsloo Races, getting killed on the last 13 km back to the finish.  Samcor was one of the best races.  About 18 km of downhill fun to the end.  Those were the days.  But I must say some races died due to the clubs getting greedy as well, and stealing the money made on the day.

Racing at Willem Prinsloo is back up and running again.  About twice a year.

I made the trek every year as it was a good weekend excuse to visit the family as well

 

but since OFM pulled out the organisation sucks.

 

last one I did they had the MTB sat and road sunday, the dude organising the MTB didn't even have permission for land access (or something) big mess. I specifically took the MTB to try and improve PPA MTB seeding. We didn't even get results due to the mess with the route.

The Vasbyt 165 km . It was the the longest PPA sanctioned race for fun riders / licensed and triathletes in the 80's . That last climb up towards the Lynnwood Drive In ( Start /Finish ) was many a unfit riders achilles heel . I road it 3 times , ended 13 th overall every time but first Vet always in about a 4hr 10 min time .

I was the youngest finisher in 1992 and 1993 at 14 years old for both years race. In 1992 it fell on 23 November, in 1993 it was 21 November, my birthday is 22 November.

 

Now that you know my birthday I will be expecting a card.

mothers day weekend

some years it started and finished at Trout Waters Inn, other years at the Magoeboeskloof hotel

Some folk had slippers in their back pockets for the long walk up the pass
