stuff from 2019 still up here

https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/expo/

they say 70 000 people over the 3 days. i'm guessing 25-35k are cyclists - many don't go at all, some go twice

lots must be kids with dad/mom

wonder how many are actually paying the R50 entry

say 30k * R50 = R1.5m..surely not?!

i'd make it free entry for all, get the hype back.

That's what they might say, but from what I have been told it is far less.  Exhibitors ask for the true numbers and both CTCT and 94.7 never actually give the real numbers... which is well less than what they hype up.

Solomons have asked for the real numbers to use as an argument to have reduced rental space in line with footfall.  CTCT and 94.7 refuse to give this information.  Ultimately they are seeing less and less sales every year at the expo's which is to the point where it is not viable.

Same in AL, some champion wheelsuckers, but thankfully also a few who were willing to help in the last 50km or so, once the group split on Maitlands.

I'm "so terribly sad" to see on Racetec that the King of wheelsuck didn't get 1st in our bunch.

Looking forward to CTCT now! And the TOGH Monument

I was in AL too but was never in the first group as I started at the back  - finished in 3.18 but could have been a shade faster if I didn't spend a solid 12kms in front of the bunch with no help

I am starting in 2A for the CTCT and I'm looking for the poorly seeded tandem - I'll be the guy on a vintage Colnago 1cm behind the tandem.  I have learnt my lesson, crime  wheelsucking pays

I can't imagine that you have to pay to collect your number, but do you have to pay to get into the expo?

I reckon, like everything, big expo's are dying.

The traditional fanfare and pre event hype is dead due to time constraints, the sheer volume of events people do and an impending sense of constantly being ripped off. Things like CTCT need to evolve or die out.

Too often these 'big' events do things because that's what they've always done, with no regard for the changing market.

Personally I hate that I am forced to walk through a crowd and a maze of vendors just to exit number collection.

I'm dubious as to whether vendors actually make worthwhile money after factoring in set up, transport, staff etc.... Not in today's climate.

But then what do I know? I'm just a total grouch who hates being forced to mill around in crowds.

If they had a rad on line shop with preferred suppliers and a pay now collect at the expo option, I would be more inclined to have a look as it gives me time to consider options, cost, want vs need etc. It would also give vendors real time leads as to how much virtual traffic the on-line expo generates for them.

Participants get in for free using their racetec chip, any guests have to pay entry

Any last minute training tips ?

Been there, done my part Slowbee. Sorry, on this one you are alone!  :)

I will put your name on our back wheel. You can't miss us. Despite the fact that we will probably be the only tandem in the group but our BURLEY is bright orange with DEEEEP section carbon wheels. The dude on the front is younger and very unfit, the guy at the back is retired and SUPER strong with the mindset and determination of an ELITE hitting peak form. He will be shouting the orders from the back and if I/we don't listen then HKGK. He also happens to be my best friend as well as a pretty awesome Dad to me and a Oupa to my 3 little boys.

I wonder what came first, the lack of traffic to the stands or the boring un imaginative stands ?

I remember the time that exhibitors would go all out, dancers, flashing lights, big displays, now it just seems to be a little cubicle with some odds and ends merchandise and disinterested expo staff.

I wondered the same thing when I visited the Art Expo at the CTCC last weekend. It did not force anyone to go, it funded itself, every visitor paid for his entry, at the "expensive" convention centre nogal! And it pumped like a Southeaster!
