Mamil Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 The recent thread about the latest Spez E-Bike got me wondering - how long and how often do most of us ride our MTB's before moving on to a newer model.
Mojoman Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 3-5 years......my car is 18 years old though! Mamil, BigDL, gummibear and 2 others 5
Eugene Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Bought mine in 2005. Since then it has received 650b wheels, disc brakes, a new fork and it went from 8sp to 9sp. gummibear, Mamil, henningvr and 4 others 7
Me rida my bicycle Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 (edited) It use to be every couple of months but have my current bike now almost 2 years, my bike transporter(???? ) 23 years old ???? ???? Edited February 5, 2020 by Me rida my bicycle Mamil, BigDL and Hairy 3
Mamil Posted February 5, 2020 Author Posted February 5, 2020 Mine is 5 years old - and my car is 9 --- I would replace it if I could justify the outlay which feels almost impossible given that I can still bomb down the singletrack and trust the bike to do it's bit adequately. And to be perfectly frank the weakest link in the trail - bike - rider chain is me! henningvr, Rowl and BigDL 3
BigDL Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Mine is 5 years old, although had the frame replaced under warranty last year, so not sure whether that makes it one year old. I sold my car a few years ago, so I can’t boast about the age of it. Mojoman, MDJ, Mamil and 1 other 4
Knersboy Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I am hoping my frame will break so I can get it replaced under warranty, I need to try harder Wheelie87, BigDL, Mamil and 2 others 5
eddy Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Bought mine in 2005. Since then it has received 650b wheels, disc brakes, a new fork and it went from 8sp to 9sp. That is like my grandfather's 60 year old pick-axe. In all that time it has only had 3 new heads and 7 new handles...….. Fork-it, jdwet1980, Mamil and 9 others 12
Karman de Lange Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 My normal Mtb is 4 years old and only replaced rear tyre few times, rest stock. My car is 46.... MDJ, Mamil and JohanDiv 3
Chadvdw67 Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 That is like my grandfather's 60 year old pick-axe. In all that time it has only had 3 new heads and 7 new handles...…..????????????????
Chadvdw67 Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I have only been riding for a little over 6 months, changed bicycle 3 times, current bike is staying with me for a good long while though
MORNE Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 (edited) #SteelbikesR4ever. that being said. Had a cotic hooligan HT for about a year before transplanting most of the things to a new Soma steel frame. My previous bike was about 10y old....sold the parts...still have the frame for a future project. All the bikes before that i broke lol. Edited February 5, 2020 by morneS555 Spokey and MTB Kid 2
Jewbacca Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I have 3...... 2 are 2017 models and one is a 2009 steel Haro Mary SS. As I now have a baby I doubt I will be 'upgrading' any of them ever again. Wheelie87, jdwet1980, MDJ and 1 other 4
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I have 2 bikes. My roadie is an old Alpina, and my mtb is a 2015 giant reign. Neither are going to be replaced anytime soon. AdamA and scubes 2
EbenJ Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 My previous Trek I had for 19 years, now have a Spez dual sus for 6 months
The Ouzo Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I'd estimate my MTB, a Giant Boulder SE, to be around 20 years old.Only thing ever to be changed on it was the tubes. just typing that out now makes me realise I should at least try and source some 26" tyres and change them, they cant be in a very safe condition. I bought the bike from the original Cycle Lab in Paulshof. Those that can remember that far back will realise how long ago that must have been.
