Dumbing down & vandalism on Kirstenbosch/Cecilia trails, Cape Town

The person who did this, did it intentionally and with enough time to contemplate their actions.

Edit: on reflection - my calling for prosecution of somebody so clearly out of touch with their place in the environment could do better with some education and a commitment to stewardship of the trails.

I am pretty sure someone here knows who did it, I'd suggest the person be encouraged to come clean ASAP (before it gets out of hand, as I doubt this is going to go away quietly) and make a considerable contribution to TokaiMTB and TMBikers - that would make the best of a sad event.

Hopefully SANPARKS step up too and send a clear message to anyone else stupid enough to do something similar.

This person must suck at riding a bike so much that they thought it better to spend all that time and effort vandalizing the trail rather than actually learning to ride it better. Yea...you must suck pretty bad to want to spend your day hacking apart rocks on your local bike trail....

I agree, this is just vandalism, not trail building or fixing. Find the idiot and make him fix potholes in the streets.

If anyone has the means go set up some hidden cameras at other rock gardens to take photographs every 30 sec

Obviously this is taking time so video would be overkill , between today late afternoon and friday late afternoon is probably best.

This person is probably not stupid enough to do it over weekends

from those pics it does not look like it was even necessary to do that to avoid those rocks.

Very strange that someone would take the effort to do that.

Its almost looks like someone wants to take something bigger than a bike through there and has prepped the trail for it.

Thanks for the pic uploads Tim Brink. It is bizarre that someone actually believes that this kind of vandalism is okay in the name of trail building. The main rock garden line has been largely neutralized  - almost zero skill required now. How do people ever progress their riding if some idjuts dumb a trail down to make it easier in a ay that permanently alters it?

BTW SANP have confirmed that they did not authorize, pay for, or do this themselves.

Is there a strava section through the rocks? Any chance a new person has the KOM? ????

Just on the whole smashing rocks things, it could also not be a cyclist at all.

Going up Pure Savage Alpen road segment on strava, all the rocks on the side cemented into the pavement were smashed like the above by 2 tik kops over 3 weeks.

These 4 are all now smashed off flat.

<comic sans on>well I know we can rule out Tim Brink because he rides an e-bike and that thing goes over anything.<comic sans off>

This malicious damage is clearly a result of a Long low and slack obsession. Pedal clearance a problem maybe......?

This really is ridiculous and I cannot see what the resultant mess was supposed to achieve.

It winds me up no end when people create a new line by riding around an obstacle (if you can't complete an obstacle then use the 'B' line or, better still, go ride a trail you are comfortable on) but this is next level.
