The Delmas road was eerily quiet on my outing this morning. Turns out a massive trench across the entire road was the cause of my bliss!

I remember a news article about that a while back, something about a massive sinkhole. Have wanted to go check it out.

Been making the best of the sunny winter days, and have had a couple of outings on our local trails over the last few weeks.  Mostly shorter trips with Maritz.

On Saturday I had a solo ride, nice and early in the morning .... made good use of my arm and leg warmers ...  :whistling:

Even the animals were enjoying the brisk early morning air ...

After all these fun days on the trails .... Thought I would wash the bikes, and top up the tubeless Sludge ..... Once the wheel was in the "rig" - I find it much easier topping up the sludge with the wheel out of the frame - I checked the axle-bearings, cleaned the drive train, and somehow the morning flew by very quickly.  :whistling:

With a drops of rain on Monday and Tuesday I should be able to get fresh mud on the bikes shortly ...

That's the unfortunate thing about the Freestate. Need to cycle 130km to gain 800m elevation. When my parents lived there I always took my MTB with and cycled out of town on the dirt roads to the farms. Think the most elevation I got on a +-50km ride was 200m [emoji3061][emoji23] Edited by BSG

Was months ago.  We have been riding that stretch almost every weekend because it's now lekke quiet.

If this was Cape Town, somebody would have been out there building jumps.  :whistling:

With the rapid rise of recent bike jackings, wanting to start riding at 04:30 to be done by 10:00 and not having a partner to tackle a ride like this with I did my first endurance ride on Zwift.

I decided to swap headwinds and rough roads for the single-positioned monotony of an IDT for constant Z2, mental toughness training. zPower was being very generous (I can most certainly not hold 226W for 5h30m, probably closer to 160-170W in Z2 where I was riding), so the distance and elevation gain is overestimated.

Still, great way to give the bums and legs a cement cocktail, and I got to explore what was a very interesting and varied landscape. Weirdly I wasn't bored at any stage of this ride.

I think being a veteran gamer (the PS1 was my first love) helped me get immersed in the world and not go crazy.

Having my own soigneur (i.e. my wife) was awesome as I got fed, caffeinated (with rusks!) and rehydrated without needing to leave the bike. She even joined me with a treadmill run which was fun.

I've also been struggling with the fit on my bike (specifically saddle tilt, fore-aft position and height), so I used this opportunity to get it dialed in. Left the saddle clamp bolts loose-ish and played around with the position while riding, and finally got it to a comfortable position.
