Not a purchase, a gift from my 14 year old.  Some years ago, my wife bought me a Singular Griffin that came with a Charge saddle in brown leather.  I've held onto that saddle and transferred it from bike to bike.  When my bike was stolen in November, the saddle went with it, and I was obviously very disappointed.  My youngster made it his mission to find a replacement, that arrived yesterday for my birthday!

And now for some matching grips 😉

Not one for bragging about stuff, but this one deserves some innovation recognition.

Thru axle need replacing, and the Fox original was quoted at > R1500.

Bike shop offered an alternative, RapiLock. Cheaper, and customizable based on a thread size, axle length, boost or non-boost. Also has a hidden skewer handle.

The old thru axle; only noticed it when washing the bike.

Anyone out there with a Rapide Tigre frame & Rigid PitchFork complete build, preferably not single speed and red (if I can be demanding 😂)?  Please post some photos,

I'm seriously considering .... :).  Please don't tell the wife 🙈.

Very neat concept.  Where did you buy?  Do they do this for front wheel also?

Edit:  Never mind, I see on their website they do front wheel also.

My local bike shop, The Work Shop, ordered it.

Tell me about it, as the list continues to grow:

  • Brakes (front and back
  • Freehub
  • Front axle
  • 3-4 spokes (yet to be done)

Buying second hand can be a lottery ....

I have had some very good purchases

But mid last year I went with a friend to look at a 2nd hand bike .... FIRST thing we noted was the brand new tires.

"Yes, the bike was serviced recently.  We are selling as we are moving to Europe"  He had various others adds going for every household item that was staying behind, and it was clear they were packing up.

The bike "looked" good.  Only item I noted was a bit of dust and dirt on the chain, absolutely normal for a few rides.  My friend rode around the block and was in love with the bike.  He bought the bike and we went straight back to my house to clean the chain .... Thought I might as well check a few things while the bike is on the workshop stand:

- Front wheel bearings needed grease ...

- Rear wheel bearings were in a bad state and we replaced the balls, and re-lubed

- Neck bearing also dry ...

- O-damn ... the new tires were cheapies and not tubeless ready ....

- Cassette was some no-name, but new and shiny ...

- Chain way more than 0,75% !!!

Ended up using a full set of spares from a previous 1X upgrade, and he had a VERY nice bike.  Short of those spares this may well have been a VERY expensive purchase .....

Next time I go to inspect a second hand bike:

- check the chain wear (take the tool with)

- Remove each wheel and feel the bearings

- check the tires, especially if you want tubeless ready

- obviously, RIDE it and check the brakes and shifting ...

Not really a boast, just a quiet satisfaction at buying some quality kit. My trusty Lapierre Audacio CP500 which I bought on special 4.5 years ago and been my mostly winter bike came with pretty good components given the price cept the chainset. So remedied that to make it all 105. Bout 11000 kms now. Been a trusty reliable bike and completed an Ironman and a number of halves on it.

105 chainset, looks the mutts nuts. Bought this a while ago but been lazy..fitted with new BB too and a general lube service. Good for another 4.5 years.

even with those tools I'd be k@k scared to do anything.

I've watched these snake catching shows, and even the pros have a hard time.

I’m no pro and I have an irrational fear of snakes with regular nightmares  - but I live on a small holding and occasionally have to move them  - the pole is 1.8m long, the longest I could find

believe me I’d love not to have made this purchase

this boomslang was 1.2m outside my bike room and this relatively harmless red lipped herald was actually in my bike room - and that was just this last week
