dsw Posted November 20, 2020 Share Great news.. well done to Doug for refusing to give in. It is a pity that de Bod is leaving... imo he is the best or most promising SA cyclist currently besides Impey and Gibbons... lets hope they can get Aru or Clarke. Re the revenue generation in football : It must be remembered that the kit manufacturers ( Nike, Addidas, New Balance) make much more money than the clubs from the sale of replica shirts even if the upfront payment is huge. The manufacturers pocket between 80 and 90% of the revenue from the actual sales. Vetplant
Jewbacca Posted November 20, 2020 Share lol, if you wish to live in the past do so!! All I am saying is Ironman have marketed themselves and their clothing pretty well, you name it, it probably had an IM logo on it and people buy it whether subtlety or not cool to wear.....cycling and pro team could probably learn something from the marketing hype if they are considering merchandising clothing and making it cool to wearLook, I am a veteran of a fair few IM events. I own quite a few of their finisher shirts and too many carry all bags to know what to do with. I do think the difference there is that it isn't a team, but an event. So guys will buy into the tri lifestyle to complete a full IM as a big sense of achievement. You can't complete a full Bora/Hansgroh and be mega proud of your achievement. I know I'm being silly, but I just don't think clothing is an answer. The cost of making it vs the scope one needs to sell it to generate some sort of margin is huge. Pro cycling teams don't have that. You can try market however you like, but I just don't see it being an answer to anything, especially as they would need to employ a whole team of merchandisers, designers etc just to get it off the ground. As someone who worked in the fashion industry both locally and abroad, it's not just a simple case of 'make shirts, open Insta account, sell shirts, make money' Patchelicious and Wayne pudding Mol

Whenever someone starts giving it am this and I do this .... i really have to question why, but each to their own......... I have also been on this rodeo with events and tshirts and by no means a spring chicken, but I don't need to tell the world about it to justify a point of view and definitely don't need to get the tattoo Sorry you feel the need to make this out as a point scoring exercise. For me, my point was that in the last 10-15 years or so IM have really gone out of their way to market themselves and their merchandise and IF, and only an IF, cycling and pro teams wanted to do the same.... which clearly they do not, then looking at Ironman or for that matter Nike, Adidas or any in vogue clothing and the way they went about it might be a consideration. It was nothing more than a point of reference. But anyway, in a nutshell we are discussing a mute point as pro teams are not interested in increasing their revenue by the clothing route. And I agree with you, it would be a whole cost exercise and team build just for the clothing and merchandise and am sure many teams have gone through it and decided not worth the capital outlay. Which perhaps is an oversight. When the likes of Beckham when to Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, the majority of his transfer fee was paid for in pre-sale shirts!! But then we are back comparing football to cycling which is like apples and oranges! And no business can make anything, slap it all over social media and expect sit back and reap the rewards! Those that do, fail as we all know any business take hard work to make a success. So lets not be patronizing!! Enjoy your weekend

Jewbacca Posted November 20, 2020 Share A little pony would be more realistic to be honest. You shuttup! Shetland pony or nothing! Also, shaper, really cheap playing the man and not the topic. Anyway, with the roster as it stands I can only hope something changes in the race plan/attitude of the team and management. If not, another 2 years of ne results looks on the cards. Frosty Posted November 20, 2020 Share Yet Ironman don't have a problem getting people wearing their kit. I think cycling just need to adapt accordingly. EF are starting to, Rapha as well, to name 2Don’t forget Sani2C and JoBerg2C... seems that’s all the clothing some cyclists have.
