Exercising at all hours is allowed, just not in groups. With the lifting of the curfew of movement, long rides are back on the cards.

The whole country is moving to level 3, even some hotspots.

We introduced the five-level COVID-19 alert system to manage the gradual easing of the lockdown.

This risk-adjusted approach is guided by several criteria, including the level of infections and rate of transmission, the capacity of health facilities, the extent of the implementation of public health interventions and the economic and social impact of continued restrictions.

It is on the basis of these criteria – and following consultation – that Cabinet has determined that the alert level for the whole country should be lowered from level 4 to level 3 with effect from 1 June 2020.

Moving to alert level 3 marks a significant shift in our approach to the pandemic.

This will result in the opening up of the economy and the removal of a number of restrictions on the movement of people, while significantly expanding and intensifying our public health interventions.

Even as we move to alert level 3 it is important that we should be aware that there are a few parts of the country where the disease is concentrated and where infections continue to rise.

We will have a differentiated approach to deal with those areas that have far higher levels of infection and transmission.

These areas will be declared coronavirus hotspots.

A hotspot is defined as an area that has more than 5 infected people per every 100,000 people or where new infections are increasing at a fast pace.

The following metros have been identified as coronavirus hotspots: Tshwane, Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Ethekwini, Nelson Mandela Bay, Buffalo City and Cape Town.

The other areas that are hotspots are West Coast, Overberg and Cape Winelands district municipalities in the Western Cape, Chris Hani district in the Eastern Cape, and iLembe district in KwaZulu-Natal.

We are particularly concerned about the situation in the city of Cape Town and in the Western Cape generally, which now has more than half the total infections in the country.

We are attending to this as a matter of urgency.

The list of hotspot areas will be reviewed every two weeks depending on the progress of the virus.

This morning there were so many people out riding, running and walking it was ridiculous. Hopefully, this stops when the 3 hour Curfew goes.

I found myself feeling vulnerable when:

Stopped at robots; everyone just stopped together, zero social distancing even though most seemed to keep distance while on the move. And some kept masks on their chin [emoji2959]. Difficult \ impossible to get out of this situation, when suddenly there’re 3 people stopped alongside you, at busy red robot where you cant just go through.

Overtaking or being overtaken on a climb, while both breathing really hard.

That all said, here is an interesting article which debunks the Belgian study about the heightened risks of cycling and running.

I’m going to have to ride my bike far, my wife is a smoker and this is a cruel punishment that penalizes the economy, punishes the poor, encourages crime and endangers people already engaged in a bad habit - I wish my wife would quit and f&ck knows what’s in these dodgy ciggies she’s smoking. I wonder what’s really driving this ciggie ban

I thought it was common knowledge

Lekker masks, but as exercise goes Anatomic is much more breathable. The Ciovota ones are well made and have a filter, so I use them when out and about - they just feel a bit more protective (completely anecdotal) - but I don't see how anyone would be able to exercise in them.

Agreed, leaving the two normal layers loose to allow the fitting of the filter leads to the inner lay surgically attaching itself to my mouth and nose when a breath is taken. Got used to it out and about, but won’t attempt to use it running/cycling. I see they have a exercise specific one out now. May be a good edition if the mask wearing requirement continues

they did not mention anything specific about distances though...just that exercising may happen  any time of day from 1 june.

imo the 5km will stay put. just speculating though....but it could make sense (from their skewed viewpoint)

Then again...those retarded ministers can all still change what 'Phosa said last night. maybe they just ban white monopoly exercise outright ^_^

I got a message asking where my uploads are, feel flattered that people so worried.

Are people genuinely that obsessed with comparing themselves to others?
