Does doping exist in SA?

Recommended Posts

This site is cool - why is it not more out there though.

Why are convicted dopers allowed to serve their ban and return to racing at events like nothing ever happened?

Tyrone White is a perfect example - on the site says served a 18 month sanction for an adverse analytical finding of Dexamethasone.

Yet the chap runs a cycling shop and coaches the youth of today

It's just scary.

Hold up chap. I see you're based in KZN, but other than that why would you single out Tyronne White as a "perfect example" ?

His case is actually a perfect example of muddied waters, raising as many questions as answers. And unfortunately no hearing document available for download, that should be a red flag, if he appealed and there was a reduction in the sanction. How would we know?

I recall the event and CSA at the time remaining very quiet.

Perhaps you can fill us in?

Speaking of Tyrone White:

https://community.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/anti-doping-rule-violation-tyronne-white-r5959

This says he was banned from 14 December 2016 until 13 June 2018.

https://inthebunch.co.za/2017/08/mandela-day-mtb-dash-results/

and this says he came fourth at the Mandela MTB Dash on 26 August 2017

Was his ban adjusted, or did he just decide to ride while banned?

There were definitely more races in that time frame.

I'm sure there probably were, but that one came to mind as I was there on the day, and when his name was announced, I thought "Wasn't he banned a few months ago?"

Like Danger Dassie said, maybe there was a reduction, but we don't know.

I am old school, doping is doping, it is sad, but it is still stealing ... opportunities, sponsorships and public good will.

Doping = fraud

Fraud = Criminal and Civil liability

I think going forward, doping should be criminalised or at least made a statutory offence in which affected parties could sue for damages, I think like what they have done in Germany or France (I think) ... I stand corrected.

Doping isn't a crime of passion, it is a crime of long term deception with intent to get the edge against others for some reward, whether it is ego or money ... because it is obvious that we have people participating in our sporting disciplines that lack integrity, criminal or civil liability may get more to toe the line.

Yeah that doesn't sit well with me at all.

Constantly vilifying someone for the choices they made decades ago completely discounts the fact that people grow and evolve and change.

It's ironic that people will say shame poor Lynette, made a dumb choice out of a set of shitty circumstances, punish her and lets all move on and wish her luck, but the same empathy is lacking elsewhere.

Imagine the dumbest thing you did, or the worst mistake you made 20 or thirty years ago being constantly held as the yardstick against which your every single current decision is measured?

you must be married for more than 10 years...

I'm a total noob at this subject. I saw mentions are made for future gains. How does this work (just a curious question)? My total lack of knowledge let me think that this gummy juice does only works for a limited time(Thinking of the Asterix comic character with his magic potion) e.g. the event that I aim to win...road race in 2 weeks time. But the samples of these juices stay in you body for a period of time.

For me any pro cyclist is unfortunately a suspected doper.

The testing goalpost is a moving target, where you have a defined number you can't cross there is incentive to get close to that number.

And then we have Burry. Massive improvements once he joined spaz racing and was always streets ahead of the locals, many who have since tested +ve. Maybe they just got desperate trying to get to his level.

No one from spaz mtb ever got caught (to my knowledge). I'm happy to say that his legacy is clean, but as all pro cyclists are unfortunately doping suspects, he doesn't escape that either.

Only cyclists? It's endemic in every sport.

Scientists have called for a crackdown on doping in chess after it emerged that players may be taking performance-enhancing substances. A study has for the first time identified two stimulants that significantly boost a player's endurance and ability to concentrate during a match
