What do you call a vehicle where the wheel on either side barely fits in the lines ?

 

 

What do you call cyclists riding so wide that a truck driving in his lane is considered wrong ?

 

 

Surely behaving like a box is a two way street ....

I'm on your side here - they are behaving legally, but they're being inconsiderate. That's probably the issue underlying most road user conflict.

I believe all too often road rage starts like this .... nobody technically wrong .... but just enough close calls, even scrapes, to trigger the rage ....

The new Highway Code that took effect on 29 January this year in the UK establishes a hierarchy of road users on the principle that those who can do the most harm must exercise the most responsibility to avoid it. Road users most at risk are at the top of the hierarchy. It goes:

1. Pedestrians
2. Cyclists
3. Horse riders
4. Motorcyclists
5. Cars/taxis
6. Vans/minibuses
7. Large vehicles such as trucks and truck and trailers and buses

The law recommends that cyclists occupy the middle of the lane even if riding abreast, and they may do so even if there’s a cycle path available.  I’m not sure that that's workable here with our relatively low levels of traffic compliance.

Spent a week in the Netherlands the week before last. It took a while to get used to being able to walk freely across the road (at the zebra crossing) without having to guess if the cars will stop or not. Once got a big uitk@k, in Knysna, for not stopping. Must be a GP thing.

As for spending time on two wheels; that was the best part. Chilled, no rush, lots of company and dare I say no helmet either.

Too much stop/start if you plan to have a good aerobic workout. Especially in town.

1cm to the RIGHT and he endangers the cars ....

 

1cm to the LEFT and he endangers the cyclists .....

 

 

In all fairness ... TRUCKS needs their own dedicated lane ....

Scary to think that there are so many people that do not understand the highway code and that dont believe slowing down is ever an answer. 

Bigger question is why are HGV that size even allowed city centres any more, they should be taxed out of existence.

I once had words with a lady in Kalk Bay. Her basic justification for running me into the gutter was that the road was very narrow there so she had no choice. The thought of slowing down till it was safe to overtake hadn't even entered into her thinking.

Similary I've had encounters that have unfolded this way while they continue to tik tik tk away on their mobile phones. People are just C*&ts

This may or may not be relevant, but anyway. 
This morning I commuted into Rosebank to meet friends at a new cycling themed coffee shop on the ground floor of their offices. 
Returning home through the streets of 'The Parks' I stopped at the one set of lights, the earlier coffee was doing it's job of percolating through the synapses and bodily rumblings. 
Taking the obvious opportunity of no pedestrians and winter morning traffic sounds for a pull my finger moment. So, I white knuckled the bars and gave the ole nought a wee stoot, just a knersie. There was an absolute fantastic baritone of bowel sounds, orchestratic in tone. I swear the reverb alone made my cheeks jiggle jiggle and pushed my socks down within the UCI legal limit. 
With watery cross eyes and a true sense of accomplishment with the timing, I noticed the robots changing and checked both ways to cross. At the same as this reflective moment I had also heard a low, high pitched "eeep" which wasn't really provide much thought given, the not inconsiderable levels of concentration on my afterburner. 
Until a creme Mini Cooper came by with it's half open passenger window and glaring eyes set above an open mouth. My shapely derriere must have been at the perfect height, who drives with their windows at half mast in winter though? 

Anyway, maybe there's a lesson or a life analogy here. Who knows. But not for a moment do I regret!

just console yourself with the fact that your emissions were not nearly as bad as the ones coming from the Mini Cooper.

Ideally that should have been a 4ton truck delivering in the city. 

But it might as well have been a long distance delivery that won't have been on a small truck. 

Taxing them out of existence is a non-starter. Our Just-in-time supply chain driven economy means that big trucks are here to stay.
