Traded the GT Ruckus for this lovely 2004 Kona, it's actually for the wife but I first wanted to put it through it's paces on the commute home. Some work required (wheels buckled, drive train is worn) but I'm pretty impressed.

...............

Said before, but your commute is something to covet!

Went for a nice morning ride.

Normal routine - Maritz and I ride, while my wife has a coffee ....

This time we head out to Bloemendal .... We get there just before 7:00.  LOTS of riders coming down from the trails, having completed their rides.  But nope, restaurant opens at 10:00 on a Saturday .... coffee shop at the B-Fever stil solidly locked up with many cyclists having finished their ride sitting "dro-bek" on the dek ....

Turned the car around and went to Meerendal.  NICE ride.  Maritz has actually RIDDEN the first two switchbacks of Stairway !  Not bad for a 7 year old !!!

Took a good break at the top, then did all of Burry Stander.  He now manages to pedal up those steep switchbacks of Burry !!  MAN, I am super proud !!

Then a nice brekkie at Carluccis.

PS - if you want something light .... order the "Quickie" and ask that the bacon and tomato be removed from the plate and the bill ....  DONT order scrabled eggs and toast, as you will pay for the quickie, you need do as above ....

PPS - we will do our afternoon rides at Bloemendal, at least my wife can get something to drink at the deck .... restaurant closes too early to actually make use of it after an afternoon ride ....

What you should be seeing is a mountain range in the background but sadly the outeniqua mountains are smoldering and have reignited pretty badly along the 7 passes - riding in the smoke was stupid but fortunately I punctured and had a long walk back. I so rarely ride my road bike that I had no way to fix it

There are fires in the Jonkersberg mountain and plantation as well from yesterday. [emoji33]
