DJR Posted November 2, 2020 Share if on a bicycle with any real value = the whole of cpt . your safer going back to the golf course . when in cpt i ride a pos or sk8board - they dont steal sk8boards .....Perhaps we should arrange a massive protest ride on the Green Point golf course to highlight the security problem we face. Invade the fairways all you gravel grinders, the greens all roadies, the rough for the mountain bikers, fat bikers in the bunkers! Come on, let's think outside the bloody box! mazambaan, Bonus, Pure Savage and 5 others

As a golfer, I would just say stay off the greens. On a more serious note, Malmesbury golf course's maintenance roads and jeeptracks make for a lekker gravel ride. I wonder if the Estate manager would be keen to regular riding. mikkelz and DJR
Jbr Posted November 2, 2020 Share guess I'm going to do the rest of my endurance training on the MTB now, and stick to killarney for the road bike... things are out of hand. It doesn't make sense, they face attempted murder charges for what ? A phone ? And that car they use to knock people off has to be stolen... really hope the police catches them and they get some sweet love in pollsmoor. I'm so sorry for you as it's been two very traumatic experiences in such a short period of time... Hope the injuries as well as the trauma heal up quick... reflexus Posted November 2, 2020 Share Think the vibe is knock people off pick up phones off floor and drive off. No place for any full bikes in a polo I posted in the stolen bikes thread as well but it's a very strange MO.I wonder if it's gang driven and part of an initiation or they are so high on the current drug of choice that there is no rational thought. They (savages) got a response off Alan Winde on social media....this is obviously now in mind so it’s the perfect opportunity to hammer the point across. But then again, he’s an avid cyclist himself and what exactly has he done for cycling since his stint as premiere here in the WC? They cant even police the cycle lanes.. mr Hairy et al basically spam his account daily with these kinds of things, from cycle lanes...to muggings etc. And nothing. Thats what your vote gets you.... Robbie Stewart Posted November 2, 2020 Share I firgot to mention then...My wifes gynie is also a cyclist, when my jacking happened while she was 32 weeks pregnant she obviously got a bit of a fright and had some worrying contractions that day...so we had to phone and mention what had happened. Anyway, he was super miffed when he heard and then told us afterwards he has two cycling friends that were recently attacked on conties just before the crossing at hoogekraal. One was stabbed and another got away with broken ribs...minus all their personal belongings. They didn't take the bikes though. I don't ride there anymore...not since i figured out their glaringly obvious escape routes to dunoon i was previously oblivious to. I recently got a call from the security comoany that helped me find my bike and the caught the perp again...for exactly the same crime on the same road - what i worried about. Where is that person? Not every cyclist is on the hub to let everyone know. They are trying to get the useless police to make somthing stick...because he obviously is just getting out again to rinse and repeat. Thanks for sharing this update. It is really frustrating that now a long ride is confined to laps of a trail center with hopefully other riders present. How long before these criminals venture onto the trails such as Hoogekraal etc? I have no faith in riding that part anymore, and it was a favourite of mine as it includes some climbs if I was not in the mood for trail riding. And with DuNoon getting ever larger, this is going to become a more present reality. DieselnDust
-cK- Posted November 2, 2020 Share I've been running this through my head since yesterday when it happened and is just left counting our blessings that there was no loss of life and Brenden was able to walk away from this and be with his family the same day, can only imagine what Brendon was going through during it all. The fact that we are starting to ask ourselves more and more every time we go out for a ride whether our ticket will be up or not is just ridiculous. Its not even safe over here anymore as I had my close call here a while back and then be involved in this Will I stop cycling, NO. Will I be more alert and on constant look out, for sure... Baracuda Posted November 2, 2020 Share I ride from Kalk Bay to Cape Point in the mornings and occasionally go over Red Hill and loop past Cape Point home. Is this even safe anymore? I always said the day I don't feel safe riding, I'll immigrate. Perhaps that day has come. Or are we only dealing with one car of criminals? cadenceblur Posted November 2, 2020 Share There is definitely something afoot in that area. We came across a suspicious vehicle as well (also a Polo - but a sedan - also sliver).Noticed the car heading towards Ocean View, it pulled over at first (some way behind us), just before the left turn to Ocean View, it came up behind us - almost coming to a stop as it took the turn - with the two occupants taking a keen interest in us. We reported this to the Ocean View police who then escorted us through Ocean View. Earlier, when leaving Cape Point, at the left turn (by Red Hill), members of the group swore that they noted a guy go on to his phone as we passed by - potentially signaling? Not a good experience riding under these conditions - by this time we were aware of the earlier incident, so we were super aware. Perhaps - the Ocean View police should do some patrolling going forward?

I think their remoteness counts in their favour. Not easy to get to, or escape from. Maybe the sections close to a road like at Faircape could be a bit dicey? buchanan Posted November 2, 2020 Share Glad you are relatively okay Pure Savage. But what a horrible experience! Just to share some info; my wife punctured at the bottom of Ocean View hill last Sunday morning. We were on the side of the road for 10-15 minutes, changing the tube etc. Not the greatest place to get a flat...Anyway there was a guy eyeing us out and after a while he approached us. At first we assumed he had bad intentions, but instead he told us that we should move along as quickly as possible as the area has become very unsafe. He mentioned that a number of bad eggs have returned to Ocean View from prison recently. DJR, Sid the Sloth and Hairy
