Does doping exist in SA?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I’ve been reading through the forums for quite some time now and I’ve finally decided to make an account.

I’ve been mountain biking for a few years now.

I was chatting to a friend of mine and we always hear about international doping scandals and we were super interested if doping actually exists in South Africa?

I have no intent to dope and I believe that doping shouldn’t be legalised in the sport to “level the playing field”. I’m just simply curious about it in SA.

Yes.

Shan Wilson has been systematically supplying a multitude of amateur and pro cyclists for decades. There are countless others. Kevin Evans, Rourke Crouser, Max Knox and a heap of other SA cyclists all on the naughty boys and girls list.

There are unfortunately hundreds of filthy cheats out there and plenty of people willing to aid and supply

My friend, doping even exists at the Bloemfontein West NG Kerk 60 km funride.

Sounds crazy but you even get people who are willing to dope to win something like that.

don't forget about mechanical doping. as tech increases, gets smaller/better...cheats will find better and easier ways to stay ahead of the rule makers to get the smallest of advantages.

Sure stuff like that gets checked at huge international events on the world stage...but the 'smaller' less stiff events probably don't even think about it...and how would they prove it? using a hammer? how long before you get an electric/magnetic driving device that looks like a disc brake and calliper? all possible. as already mentioned...even some wannabe pro's find joy in being the fastest at club level lol.

on that note, even though the rules made it abundantly clear...i saw an E-bike on the way to Simonstown as well as one of those 'help my trap' with an engine mounted to it, though it was not running at that stage but i could smell the 2 stroke from a km away...

In a few months/year after being dropped countless times by people of seemingly inferior physique the next question ( which you will try fruitlessly to find the correct forum to post it on ) is where you can also get some juice and does X really work or "supplement  X" considered doping or legal...
